Cormorant sunning itself at Tottenham Lock.

Cormorant is standing on a float in the river with its wings spread wide which it does to dry them in the sun after diving. Normally cormorants appear to be black but here you can see black at the edges and down the spines of the feathers but other parts shade to dark bronze.

Detail of the wing of the cormorant in the previous image — although taken from a different photograph. The feathers look as if they were painted on and the wing gleams with preening oil. It might be the scaled wing of a dragon.
