Our local bumblebees really seem to appreciate the Saffron flowers in the fall!
I’ve been doing it for the last couple of years. So far have not seen any issues.
Here’s a photo from last fall, Oct 20, 2024
I planted basil in the Saffron bed for the summer. All the Saffron corms will be dreaming until late August.

As it is Easter, sourdough saffron buns. You're welcome. #Sourdough #Saffron #SaturdayBaking
Fire up your grill for a delicious BBQ chicken breast with saffron! Start by marinating the chicken in a mix of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and a pinch of saffron threads for about an hour. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked. Let it rest before serving. Enjoy the fragrant, flavorful twist saffron adds to your BBQ!

How do they do it?
My Saffron stays green all winter and has completely died back above ground by early June. They come up again at the end of August-early September. It’s hard to imagine they are creating more plant mass in the winter — but they keep making new corms every year??
#ArtAdventCalendar Day 13
On the day where St. Lucia is traditionally celebrated in my native #Sweden, I'll share this painting of delicious St. Lucia saffron buns I painted last year, traditionally baked for December 13th and the "Festival of Light".
Let me tell you, these are SO tasty. In fact, I need to bake some before Christmas!
The price for #Saffron this year seems to be around 3500€/kg for both Spanish and Afghan origin. I just ordered 5 grams to stock up (it lasts very long, as you really only need minuscule amounts). #LifeHack you can also give your rice a nice yellow colour with #Turmeric AKA #Kurkuma. But the saffron aroma is unbeatable, IMHO.
