RSS With An Expiration Date: The Temporary Obsessions Feed Reader
I love RSS; I literally couldn't do my self-appointed job without it. But when it comes to temporarily monitoring topics, RSS feeds are a bit unwieldy; you have to add another layer of workflow to add/remove feeds, set up reminders for yourself, etc. All that has hitherto discouraged me from using RSS when there was a time-sensitive or current event topic to cover.
I am proud of this conditional formatting formula that now highlights any significant growth.
I was importing books from a different website into @bookwyrm and wanted to remove a couple and my personal notes just so they didn't accidentally get published to the internet. So I edited my csv by removing those parts and somehow ruined it, spent half an hour trying to fix it. That was yesterday. I tried again today and was somewhat smarter with how I handled the csv and it is currently importing correctly!

New bloggage - in 2014 I tried to read some old #QuattroPro for #DOS #spreadsheets in modern software, and concluded the format was effectively obsolete.
More than ten years onward, things are looking much better now, thanks to @libreoffice. But my latest tests also highlight some gnarly issues.

'Now, users will only have to download an Excel template, input their financial data and upload it to the online tool. The tool will convert the information using eXtensible Business Reporting Language, or XBRL, a royalty-free, open source international framework that communicates financial data on the internet.'
🧮 Welcome to 2025, where we still discover the groundbreaking news that #spreadsheets have features. 🚀 In a stunning display of #innovation, intrepid researchers have quantified the sophistication of spreadsheet software, bravely facing the subjective nature of function support and calculation exactness. 🤯 Spoiler alert: they’re all just glorified #calculators with delusions of grandeur. 📈

Been using Airtable for a long time now, so I thought I'd finally make it official (again): I'm Airtable certified.
I love working with relational databases. For some reason, they've always "clicked" in my brain. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bring me some Airtable projects and let's make your database/app/interface come to life 🤝 📥

Tom’s Hardware: Developer gets Linux running inside Microsoft Excel, ‘mostly for fun’. “Developer NSG650 has succeeded in his attempt to get “Linux running in Excel.” The GitHub-hosted and aptly named LinuxInExcel project was uploaded to the cloud-based developer platform earlier this week, and updated with input support just yesterday.”
Industry studies show that 90 percent of spreadsheets containing more than 150 rows have at least one major mistake. Yet we keep using them for mission critical projects 🫠 #spreadsheets
I need to set up a private spreadsheet that is viewable and editable by an elderly relation (who uses spreadsheets all the time) and a couple of younger family members, one of whom lives interstate.
The obvious answer is Google Sheets. Is there an alternative that is usable for these people?
