Firma Vast, startup dążący do budowy prywatnej stacji kosmicznej, z powodzeniem umieścił na orbicie swoją pierwszą misję demonstracyjną.

Sonda o nazwie Haven Demo wystartowała w niedzielę na pokładzie rakiety Falcon 9 firmy SpaceX, a krótko po osiągnięciu orbity pomyślnie rozłożyła swój panel słoneczny.

Misja Haven Demo jest kluczowym elementem strategii firmy. Vast, wspierany przez miliardera Jeda McCaleba, rywalizuje o kontrakt NASA na budowę komercyjnej placówki na niskiej orbicie Ziemi, która ma w przyszłości zastąpić ISS. W przeciwieństwie do konkurentów, Vast przyjął podejście iteracyjne – zamiast budować wszystko od razu, testuje technologię w kosmosie krok po kroku.

„Sukces misji Haven Demo zmienił nas w sprawdzoną firmę kosmiczną” – napisał na platformie X dyrektor generalny firmy, Max Haot. Półtonowy satelita, krążący na wysokości 500 km, posłuży jako platforma testowa dla kluczowych systemów firmy, w tym komputerów, oprogramowania, zasilania, napędu i łączności radiowej.

Kolejnym etapem będzie pierwszy pojedynczy moduł mieszkalny przystosowany do przyjęcia załogi. Jego start planowany jest obecnie na 2026 rok. Główna struktura modułu jest już gotowa i przeszła testy ciśnieniowe. Zanim trafi na przylądek Canaveral, przejdzie jeszcze rygorystyczne testy środowiskowe w placówce NASA.

Gdy kolejny moduł znajdzie się na orbicie, ma przyjmować załogi latające na pokładzie statków Dragon firmy SpaceX. Każda wizyta ma trwać około dwóch tygodni. W dalszej perspektywie, w latach 30., Vast planuje budowę znacznie większej, wielomodułowej stacji Haven-2. Obecna misja Haven Demo bezpośrednio testuje technologie dla Haven-1 – przykładowo, jeden panel słoneczny demonstratora jest identyczny z 12 panelami, które znajdą się na docelowym module mieszkalnym.
