This #Ichneumon #wasp (Crypteffigies lanius) never recorded in Sussex before, seen by @pkster101.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy in a #Brighton garden in 2022! Record has recently been confirmed here. They have mainly been seen near Sheffield, about 30 years ago. #Wildlife #Biodiversity #brightonwildlife

#News how about to deport #WASP instead???

The #melodeath band The Halo Effect put out an EP of 5 cover songs called We Are Shadows. It's really good, and the original songs are really good, too, so I put together a playlist of the original songs (on YouTube Music, plz don't hate me): music.youtube.com/playlist?lis

The wasps have finally completely left the nest by mid-November. All summer long, there was tons of activity with dozens of wasps buzzing around.

This time of year is so interesting for interesting people interested in interesting things. Saw so much

1) Upright Coral fungus
2) Candlesnuff fungus
3) Snowy waxcap
4) Common spangle gall wasp's gall

A pink-orange fungus growing vertically. It resembles very upright coral with little branches coming off at the topSome thin, pointed vertical fungus growing on wood. They are individual stems, black like coal dust at the base and a little way up the stem, turning to a powdery whiteA silky, ivory white round headed fungus in grass. Almost jellyfish like. It has a translucent quality.Close up of a dark brown oak leak with a number of circular galls with a circular raised centre ... think circular fried eggs of poppers on clothes. They are a pale yellow/off white, with speckles. You can't see them but each raised centre has a larvae inside.

#latevember So... It's come to this. When my timelines are scattered and my brain is going on overdrive, there's only one thing left to do... Art! Sorry for not posting for a few days. Here are the next three drawings. I refuse to not see this thing through to the end, I like practicing art!

Is this what you dream of?
Is there anything past those weary eyes?
You did not choose this, yet you were chosen.
A mote of hope, a mote of will, a rest to come.

Wasp! I suspect this is a boy wasp, though I wasn’t prepared to pick it up to check. Long curved antennae and 7-segment abdomen are the signs here. He was tried and struggling to fly, and probably won’t live much longer.

A front-on portrait of a wasp with yellow legs and largely yellow face. Its black antennae have a little patch of yellow at the base.A top down view is a wasp on a greeting wooden table top. The wasp has the classic yellow and black colouration, with yellow legs. The black antennae are long and slightly curved at the end, and the abdomen has seven yellow segments with black dividing lines.

Buried Alive - #Arachtober 31
I watched this horrifying scene unfold in a flower pot at a state park.

This Wetland Giant Wolf Spider (Tigrosa helluo) is not dead, only paralyzed by the sting of its hunter, a Rusty Spider Wasp (Tachypompilus ferrugineus).

The wasp is dragging the spider to its grave. There, it will be entombed alive, a living meal for the single wasp larva that will hatch on its body. It will be slowly eaten alive from the inside, in the dark, for weeks.

New post: Nature’s Beauty on My Personal Abyss by Peter.

One of the last wasps to be seen this year. Despite the storm today it stayed on my finger for quite some time before it eventually took off again.

sometimes, I try and illustrate the living-things I encounter to help fully observe and memorize their identifying features.

This is the latest such illustration, some galls I saw this year:

top row: ram's-horn & spangle gall wasps, on oaks

bottom row: beech gall midge, on beech; willow gall sawfly, on willow
