Experta latinoamericana reconfigura salud global

Crisis sanitaria global impulsa liderazgo regional desde América Latina.

La arquitectura de la salud global enfrentó una crisis profunda de equidad, eficacia y gobernanza. Este entramado incluyó instituciones, actores, acuerdos, normas y mecanismos de financiamiento internacional. El diagnóstico fue planteado desde América Latina y el Caribe.

Desde la región, la Dra. Paola Abril Campos colaboró en la iniciativa Repensando el Futuro de la Salud Global. La académica se desempeñó como profesora investigadora del Institute for Obesity Research y de la Escuela de Gobierno y Transformación Pública del Tecnológico de Monterrey. Su participación se centró en corregir desequilibrios estructurales del sistema sanitario internacional.

La iniciativa buscó devolver el liderazgo en investigación a las regiones más afectadas por las crisis sanitarias. El planteamiento propuso un cambio en las dinámicas tradicionales de cooperación internacional. La propuesta priorizó equidad, corresponsabilidad y liderazgo regional.

Nominación internacional

En junio de 2025, la Dra. Paola Abril Campos fue seleccionada como una de cinco comisionadas por Wellcome Trust. El organismo internacional impulsó un proceso para reimaginar la arquitectura de la salud global. La designación representó un hecho inédito para América Latina y el Caribe.

La académica se convirtió en la única representante regional dentro de la comisión internacional. Su nombramiento consolidó su trayectoria en investigación aplicada a políticas públicas de salud. También fortaleció la presencia latinoamericana en debates globales de justicia sanitaria.

La especialista señaló que la nominación representó un desafío profesional de alta complejidad. Indicó que la iniciativa exigió un enfoque innovador para atender un sistema en crisis. El trabajo se desarrolló junto con su equipo académico. –sn–
