Keep up dreaming of life in the South Pacific

Being the largest body of ocean on the planet, the Pacific has its own tune.
It is deep, rumbling, and even on a sunny, relaxing day, it is a low, calming, background sound.

Even in this southern part named the Coral Sea.

Sitting and watching boats go by, the endless sky meeting the endless ocean in the horizon, reflecting on how the traveller spirit is basically human behaviour. We were meant to reach out, explore and move, meet and embrace, from our human origin in East Africa a couple of million years ago.

And sometimes just stop, and enjoy moments like this.

Having spent one of many December solstices abroad, the poinciana definitively reminds a Northerner of the traditional yule/xmas-celebrations.

In Vanuatu there where a lot of them, really making the islands a perfect spot for a winter break.

This tree, originally from Madagascar, are spread all over the zone where the global travellers of old needed a heavy spot of lively colours.

A sparkly red card stock cut and folded into what looks like a ski gondola and brown cable car hook that attaches onto it at the top. Transparency film has been cut and glued onto the sides so they look like windows.

My finger is pushing into the door of the ski gondola so you can see that even after assembling you can put something in there.

A whole garland of rejects and works in progress over the course of the month. The two closest - the red and the green - are the final designs.

In the past, Christmas decorations tended to stay up until Candlemas (February 2nd), but during the Victorian era the Christmas season was shortened. Now most people agree decorations should be taken down by the end of 5th January (12th Night), with it being considered unlucky to keep them up longer. There used to be considerable debate about what to do with the Christmas evergreens. Some insisted they should be burnt as soon as they were taken down. A common folklore motif is the 'Wild Hunt', in which a crowd of dead or damned souls rampage through the air or across the sky. The hunt can be led by witches or by figures as diverse as Odin, King Arthur, the Devil, Cain or Herod. The hunt is most commonly sighted in winter, especially during Yuletide.
