Nice to see my colleague Stef Simmons get well-deserved recognition for her farsighted work in silicon-based quantum computing.

It’s also worth emphasizing that her research builds on years of less visible curiosity-driven condensed matter research, in our department and elsewhere, that no one could have expected to lead to a new way to build a quantum computer. It takes a village, so to speak.
