How cool is that, I can emulate the mainboard in #86Box (only single cpu) I've bought and play around with it. How crazy is it, that's in the list of supported models oO
#OpenBSD Installation went fine so far, I am really stoked that it boots at all and the project still support i386. #FreeBSD dropped i386 with the R15 release last year as #Debian did as well with Trixie.

Möchte man statt Windows 98 lieber ein etwas schlankeres Windows 95 auf seinem Retro-PC oder einer virtuellen Maschine wie #VMware #VirtualBox oder einem Emulator wie #pcem #86box installieren, gibt es verschiedene Hürden, die man nach über 30 Jahren seit erscheinen von Windows 95 leicht vergessen bzw. übersehen hat oder womöglich neu hinzugekommen sind.
Windows halt wieder, mit seinen völlig überzogenen Systemanforderungen! Man kann's halt auch übertreiben... Nen 486er mit 16MB RAM? So viel Rechenleistung und RAM braucht doch kein Mensch! 😉

I'm spending a quiet monday before christmas at the office checking out the - just released - 86Box v5.3. The floppy disks sounds and models were updated, so I needed to reset my virtual machines. Otherwise, everything seems to be working fine, as usual. Which is great! 😃

Managed to get Slackware 4.0 running in 86Box with the same specs as my Slackware 8.1 install from yesterday.
For this one, pfetch just segfaulted, so I had to write up my own janky little fetch script. If anyone's interested, I can clean it up and share it even though it's outdone by basically every other fetch script on Earth. All you'd have to do is swap in your own logo.

I was successfully able to get pfetch to recognize such an old version of Slackware by just writing my own /etc/os-release file with the necessary information.

Da ist mir heute mal ein richtig schöner Diskettensatz von Excel 4.0 für Windows 3.x über den Weg gelaufen. Diese Version von Excel hatte ich bisher nur als Teil von Office 3.0, jedoch noch nie als Stand-Alone Fassung.
Ich konnte die Datenträger gerade schon kurz testen und erfolgreich in 86Box installieren. Die fertigen Images lade ich dann im Laufe der kommenden Tage auch wieder ins Internet Archive. 😉
