#solved Does anyone have experience with midish? I can’t get the clock forwarded from my clock source m8 to my circuit as a sync receiver.
dclktx and dclkrx are set for each device respectively and confirmed with dinfo.
I settled on aconnect as a workaround, but I would love to handle everything in one place. Also, I want to make use of the midish sequencer, which will require syncing as well.

I configured PulseAudio sandboxing. There are two main
ways to do that:
- run separate daemons with PULSE_RUNTIME_PATH
environment path.
- configure socket=/tmp/pulse-socket and connect to it
other clients.
I found easy way to create git patch in Gentoo:
1) ebuild libpulse-17.0.ebuild unpack
2) “git diff --no-index src/pulsecore/core-util.c
src/pulsecore/core-util.c2 >
/etc/portage/patches/media-libs/libpulse-17.0/my.patch”

Throwing binary data directly into your ear is super fun!
Some time ago, me and @Esche@chaos.social had some fun with aplay
ing some random files we had lying around our computers. In general, aplay -f cd some-random-file
can give you some noisy results ;)
Here are some examples. Included are: /bin/ls, /bin/lsd, /lib/libc.so.6 and an image I made in blender. All of these files are very noisy, usually close to white noise but they sometimes feature a very "digital sound" i.e. randomly pitched square waves (at least it sounds like that to my ears). I also noticed how ls is way shorter than lsd.

However, i would love to see some work being done on the music sector. Native Instruments, East West, Melodyne have no Linux support. I would love seeing a corporate entitiy constantly pushing for improved ASIO drivers, VSTs, FX plugins, and so on...

@chesheer Honestly, that's poor #OSS / #USS support from applications. hw.snd.default_unit just configures what the "virtual" /dev/dsp is an alias for. But of course #FreeBSD has /dev/dspX available to open whatever audio device you want, applications just would need to support that.
With the whole mess around #alsa, #pulseaudio, #pipewire (to name just a few "standards" #Linux came up with) around, it's no surprise #OSS / #USS is a second class citizen (if supported at all) in applications 😞
I've sent this to the alsa-user mailing list, but in case there are any #ALSA experts on here. #AskFedi
Hi all,
I've recently acquired a Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 Mk1 second hand and have it running Debian 12 quite well, except for one little nit.
Headphone and Speaker controls are swapped. So to hear any sound, I need to open up a mixer like `alsamixer` (specifically I need to run `alsamixer -c 0` to bypass Pipewire/PulseAudio) then turn up the "Headphone" channel to hear sound out of the internal speaker.
The "Speaker" channel controls the combo headset port.
I need the "Headphone" to adjust the combo headset port, and the "Speaker" to adjust the internal speaker … the way they are in fact labelled.
Details of the machine:

I've tried setting up `/etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf` to try an alternate `model` (I tried `aspire-headset-mic` based on other Panasonic machines needing this) but based on this list at https://docs.kernel.org/sound/hd-audio/models.html it is not at all clear which of these (if any) "switches" these two mixer channels.
If anyone could advise what `snd-hda-intel` module settings I should use, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Yep, nice to see the #ALSAProject keeps its documentation up to date…
