Paper Wasp With Water Drop.
I am not completely sure what she is doing here. It was a really hot day, and apparently sometimes they spit out a water ball and hold it in their mandibles to cool down through its evaporative effects. Or maybe it is getting ready to take water to the nest, to make pulp or hydrate the larvae!

Eine Senf-Blauschillersandbiene auf... Senf.

A mining bee (Andrena agilissima) on a white mustard flower. Unfortunately, there is no good English expression for the German name. Maybe iridescent blue mustard sand bee

An almost black bee with dark translucent wings and white hair is sitting on a bright yellow flower, the photo is shot from the side from above, light is reflecting on the body and wing, showing the blue iridescent color on the wings the German name hints to. Another, much smaller orange insect is sitting on the back.

Paper Wasp With A Meal
This little ball of food (caterpillar head?) is likely on its way to the nest to feed the larvae. It must have been heavy- he chose to hide from me rather than fly off instantly. #wasps #canon #canonphotography #biodiversity #bug #closeup #paperwasp #pollinator #arthropods #insect #insectsofthefediverse #macro #macrophotography #macrophotographie #insectphotography #pollinator #nature #naturephotography #outdoors

Most of the winged ants I see are tiny black ones, but today I spotted this big red one on a wingstem (Verbesina alternifolia) leaf.

Thyreus orbatus on lavender. Random fact: the German term for the Thyreus genus / cuckoo bees / cloak-and-dagger bees is "fleckenbienen" which means 'spotted bees'.

Set of five digital flat color illustrations, four of a goliath bird eating tarantula called Reg and one of Reg and a person with olive skin and black hair who is wearing black framed glasses, a headscarf and a black muscle t-shirt. The one on the top left corner is of Reg waving at the viewer with their left pedipalp and saying "Howdy!". The one on the top right corner is a closeup of one of their legs, along with some text in blue font that says "Floofy spooder paws!". The one below it is one of Reg shuddering, squeezing their eyes shut and saying "Ewwwww socialising!". The one on the bottom left corner is one of Reg looking terrified, with their hair standing on end, saying "S-stay back!". The one on the bottom right corner is one of Reg sleeping on the person's head, with the person sitting on a chair with their arms crossed and also sleeping. On the top right corner there is some text in blue font that says "Daemon: Regulus (Reg). Goliath bird eating tarantula (theraphosa blondi). Gender: What." The background is very light yellow.

All hail Karner Blue! The gem of the Capital Region of New York. This tiny endangered butterfly was discovered right in the Albany Pine Bush. As of yesterday, they were out in force among the lupine flowers. Absolutely incredible! Albany County, New York, May 2025

The veil of night in the forest makes plants more likely to become animals and walk around until sunlight comes. With a flashlight and a bit of luck we are able to catch them in the act. 🍃

Nature photograph taken at night showing a katydid hiding behind a partially bitten green leaf. The insect's body is almost completely covered by the leaf, except for its "face" and two legs: the front and middle legs on the right, which rest on the aforementioned leaf and another piece further down, respectively. The katydids's face emerges from a slightly more bitten piece of the leaf, like a "hole" that leaves it especially exposed, probably made by the insect itself before being photographed.
