Unlike in North Korea, a shift to autarky will not reduce the US to miserable poverty. A withdrawal from the global economy will produce a short-run recession and long-run stagnation in the US, but not necessarily an economic collapse.

I recommend a lot of films but don't often say, "WATCH THIS MOVIE!". Ok so, watch this movie. Excellent acting, excellent script and incredible scenery make a very simple story into something well worth watching. David Gulpilil stars, you'll remember him from 'Walkabout' years ago. He spends a lot of time looking off into the distance but that's when you realize what an amazing actor he is, just by watching his eyes and expressions.
