#BugTracker

Matt Cengia agreed in 2023: Discord has most of the same problems as Slack, the sole permitted client has flashy distractions, searching history is difficult, and exporting history is infeasible. Describes pros and cons of several alternatives, including Slack, IRC, XMPP, Mattermost, Signal, Discourse, and issue trackers of GitHub and other forges. 3/4

Dave Cheney went further in 2017: Please stop using chat in general for open-source communities. Even a free protocol like IRC, XMPP, or Matrix disadvantages people with a full-time job and people in less-privileged time zones. Use issue trackers, mailing lists, newsgroups, and other asynchronous forums instead. 2/4

We are pleased to announce we have rolled out a new, more intuitive issue template for reporting bugs or requesting features in NVDA. The form is still on GitHub & still requires the same information as previously, but now uses individual fields rather than one long edit box with comments. You can explore here (Note it IS live so if you submit an issue, it will be submitted as an actual issue): github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue

Un bugtracker hébergé directement dans le repository Git (grâce à Git notes, me semble-t-il). C'est un super moyen d'avoir des projets git vraiment portables github.com/git-bug/git-bug #git #bugtracker #portable #opensource #software #hack

🥳🎉 "Git Bug" is here, folks! Because who doesn't dream of embedding a bug tracker right into their version control system? 🙃 Welcome to the future, where every bug is a feature, and every feature is... just another bug. 🚀🔧

Millionen Zeilen Code aber nicht einen Test. Wo startet man?
Eine berechtigte Frage, oder?

Aber wie gehen wir am besten vor?

Wir haben auf der einen Seite massiv viele Zeilen Code, aber eben keinerlei Test. Das genau ist in viel

Today in bugs I always hope to never run across: #Corruption of the save state of #minecraft worlds. Turns out, Thermal Series has (had?) a #bug, where machine upgrades don't mark the chunk they're in as modified; effectively voiding the upgrade item if directly exiting the world after applying it.

Aside: #Discord Channels are not a #BugTracker :( :( :( This took me far too long to uncover - it could have been a simple DuckDuckSearch away.

Screenshot of a Discord Channel, showing the bug report and confirmation. Following is a verbatim copy of the channel content:

[21:36]Scarface96361: I think this would be the right place to bring this up but I believe I found a bug with thermal in the direwolf 20 pack. I'm running my own private server for a few friends off my pc and using the arboreal extractors to get latex for rubber. to speed up the extractors I put integral components in the augment slots but when i stop and restart the server the integral components seem to be deleted from the extractors upgrade slot.

i was able to replicate the issue twice by building extra kits, installing one and reloading the server. when the server finished booting back up the kit was gone. tis happened twice

if theres a proper format for this im sorry I didnt see anything about it in rules or here
[21:43]ShinyPorygon: Can you reproduce with just thermal?
[21:46]Scarface96361: im actually doing a little more testing. it might not be a thermal bug. i moved the extractor and tried reloading again and the augment stayed. but i didnt have a pipe attempting to extract so it might actually be an issue with pipez removing the augment?
[21:48]ShinyPorygon: Well if you put it back against it and it does it then yes
[21:54]LobsterJonn: pipez having issues, preposterous! :KEKW:

"I have a question regarding project XYZ and as you disabled the Issues section there, I'll simply open an issue here [on a different project]".

Sure, no problem as I disabled issues for no reason, you're welcome. Next time maybe just use any other issue tracker for your unrelated crap, or even ask on LKML.

#bugtracker s are from a time where Software mostly worked except for a few edge cases.

Should we rename them feature trackers now?

@olivvybee +9001%

Everyone who uses #Discord as #BugTracker, #Support & #Documentation repalcement should be banned from coding!

It's just bad and Discord's #ToS are unacceptable!

@lethalbit AFAICT
#Fossil is not only a #DVCS but also integrates tools that would be used with a #git into itself, like a #wiki, #bugtracker, #blog, so it's more of a replacement of a "#Git #distribution" or rather -Suite like #Gitea or #Gitlab.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil_(

That being said I can understand why some projects may choose it and for smaller teams this may be the best option.

Tho I assume it's not compatible with #git...
