Excited for the #COSMICDesktop beta, been running my Asus Vivobook Laptop on alpha and while it's had some minor DE only crashes it's overall very functional. @system76 #foss #opensource

Vacation, day 1.
Cleaned windows. Washed curtains. Watered lime and yuzu plants. Cleaned coffee machine. Re-stocked fridge. Re-fueled car. Cooked vegetables for the week.
Updated all computers and partitions. Bought a color ebook reader. Fiddled with #labwc refusing to resize itself in a vm. Tested again #COSMICdesktop after some months and releases.
Feelin' a bit claustrophobic... 😧
@rhold zu Pop!_OS wäre noch zu erwähnen, dass Gnome in Zukunft von #CosmicDesktop abgelöst werden soll, eine komplette Neuentwicklung eines Desktop Environments:

@onegeekarmy #COSMIC #COSMICdesktop i contribute the #Dutch #translations, most of them.
But I use it on #Fedora #Linux #KDE #Plasma as fallback and for the tools ( #Kate and #Dolphin )

TIL COSMIC’s panels and docks are nested wayland compositors, so writing new applets can be done in any language with any wayland-native toolkit, and third-party applets can be sandboxed as flatpak.

i wrote a bit of #rust and created an applet to show the weather (using wttr.in) in my panel (in #COSMICdesktop ). it needs a bit more work for it to re fetch the weather every hour or so, maybe nicer emojis in the panel, and I need to find a wttr.in format that looks good, but i'm already pretty happy with it ^^
i'm usually a backend dev only, so the frontend bit was new and confusing at first, but not insurmountable. nice little coding adventure
My computer made me mad last night so I rage wiped it and am trying #PopOS with their #CosmicDesktop
The user-friendly version of a tiling workspace is interesting. I'm only a few minutes into using it, but it seems like a much better intro to tiling for folks than just dumping them in Sway.
my hodge-podge desktop array of objects like corn fell out of my pocket well organized. i find the corn.

oh yeah! I really like it. I think it just auto-created a new workspace for me, when i attempted to tile .. from vert to horizontal placement to see the full terminal command line
(probably super + down then down again (or up))
but, it just made a new workspace for the window. unexpected, but i like it. it was a perfect compromise / option for the tiled placement, IMO.

This works for me!
I really like the Tiling options/ interface. Done and done. simple and functional. i may be home!?
as one who spends much time also with an #MXLinux env, @mxlinux y'all out to check out COSMIC.
EDIT: the "Dock" type bar at left, does AUto-close and typically not present. but always there for the screenshot, unless move the window "in front" of it, then it does collapse. cool.
💃
Trying out the cosmic desktop and whew it’s pretty nice for alpha software. I’ve only had time to mess with the tiling and do some basic configuration, but it’s already such an ideal blend between a tiling window manager and traditional desktop environment. I’ll have to do some testing on gaming and odd business cases (zoom screensharing is about the extent of that actually) but I can get used to this fasho

#Tasks redesign coming soon? 👀
My modified #PopOS is having a risky window system flaw where when a new window opens, sometimes the one underneath it retains focus... I've almost copy-pasted some stuff into a chat when it was supposed to go somewhere else.
My setup is really glitchy. I want to switch to something that works better, but I have so much config that might get lost... I think I'll hold out until #COSMICDE . At least until it works on #Nvidia + #Wayland !
