My modified #PopOS is having a risky window system flaw where when a new window opens, sometimes the one underneath it retains focus... I've almost copy-pasted some stuff into a chat when it was supposed to go somewhere else.
My setup is really glitchy. I want to switch to something that works better, but I have so much config that might get lost... I think I'll hold out until #COSMICDE . At least until it works on #Nvidia + #Wayland !

Just finished installing #COSMICdesktop Alpha 7 on my miniPC. Hats off to the System76 folks for all their amazing work. With each update, the OS continues to improve in both performance and polish.

🧵🪡 I spent many hours bisecting an update that broke my VM...

I could no-longer run #COSMICdesktop in #qemu with a #virtio GPU using venus to provide hardware acceleration to the guest.

I finally nailed it down to the guest kernel. The #Mesa docs say you need a **host** with kernel 6.13+ (I'm running 6.14).

However, I discovered my VM broke when the **guest** kernel was updated from 6.12 to 6.14 🤦. That's very counterintuitive.

The most current Cosmic Desktop alpha as of March 2025 is really fantastic. Oh, a glitch or two, but it really is shaping up nicely.

The only show stopper for me is that drag and drop doesn't work. But that will come and it is otherwise fantastic.

BTW, the desktop does need more depth. Maybe some shading under windows.

I am looking at PopOS the upcoming Cosmic desktop. I think it looks good, I like the ideas behind as far as I understand them. Has anyone tried it or has thoughts about it? My daily driver is Kbuntu but I am considering switching to PopOS when a new version with the stable Cosmic desktop comes is released.
Any comments or ideas?

Does anyone have the same problem as I have on #COSMICdesktop?
I have Firefox windows on workspace 1,
I have a Virtmanager window on workspace 2,
I want a new window on an empty workspace 2 and the Virtmanager window on workspace 3,
so I open the workspace overview and move Virtmanager to workspace 3, I close the overview and workspace 2 is not empty anymore.
