The problem is much harder than you say.
They will argue that it's not the data center, it's the energy use.
Then they will argue they've greened the energy.
But the real problem is in that. We have already in many places accepted what we should never accept: that anything can be greened other than the entire world.
If it's possible for a subset of people, with high tech or much money, to just green the things they want and then leave everything else alone, we will fail.
They will sit back and said "we did our part, now you do yours". But meanwhile the world, which does not portion up that way, will fail.
They have their bunkers, which I'm sure will not work, but it doesn't matter if they'll work. It matters that they control the policy and they imagine themselves safe.
We need to insist that people understand. You cannot add a need to the world and then green it up and say it's balanced. All that effort greening was already owed to the existing world. When you see it this way, you understand that they didn't green their energy, they stole the greening they owed the world.
THAT is the problem. We're all in this together. They somehow imagine not. We can't escape doing all the parts. If there is someone with more resource than someone else, that doesn't mean they can do their part and stop, it means they owe their surplus to the problem. Most people are busy just surviving. Only the people with surplus can fix this, as a practical artifact of how we've made money work. They think that doesn't feel like how money should work. Too bad. Physics just doesn't agree.
