I'm #Native and #Jewish, two brown cultures.

My descendants and I are the #Survivors of the #Genocide of millions and millions and millions of peaceful, generous, creative, loving and hard working people.

Everything we had was stolen from us.

We are the people the colonized world wanted to never exist. But we are here and we are not going away.

We don't give a hoot about the #FourthOfJuly - we celebrate our own survival against all the odds. #FuckTheUSA #USA #Indigenous #Colonization

#FourthOfJuly
I don't talk much about the damage the #Colonization of North America and the subsequent #Independence of the #UnitedStates has done to my personal family. And I probably never will, but it has been substantial, even to this very day.

Certainly I confront what the land and resources theft, what the genocide and enslavement of millions of people has done to my people more than my mother or grandmother, who were much more shell shocked than I am.

A new kind of #colonization, powered by #OpenAI:

"While framed as a novel invitation to “anyone” to do #archaeological research, the competition focuses mainly on the Brazilian territory, transforming the #Amazonia and its peoples into an open laboratory for model testing. What is presented as scientific #crowdsourcing is in fact a carefully designed mechanism for refining #geospatialAI at scale."

Battle of Fort Pitt – Cree Victory (Apr 15, 1885)

On April 15, 1885, Cree fighters led by Big Bear captured Fort Pitt (Saskatchewan), overpowering a small NWMP garrison. The fort was burned and its defenders taken hostage — a rare Indigenous-led victory early in the conflict. 🇨🇦 #NorthWestRebellion #Cree #FortPitt #Canada #Colonization

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_o

A colorful engraving illustrates the Battle of Fort Pitt. Figures representing Indigenous peoples and European settlers engage in combat near a large fort with several buildings and a wooden palisade. Some figures are on horseback, while others are firing from behind vegetation. A river flows past the fort, and rolling hills form the background.

I've finished: Calypso by Oliver K. Langmead

This is a generation colony ship sci-fi novel.

One of the first scenes introduces a Terra-formed Mars. The technological hurdles have been solved. Overcoming technical issues inherent in such a grand project is not the subject of this novel.

It is not nature but human nature Calypso struggles with.

What form should such a colony take? What toll will such a project take on its crew?

Calypso is also a literary experiment, giving different view point characters different literary styles. Including a view point written entirely in verse. I enjoyed this aspect and applaud the audiobook Producers for using distinct narrators for the different viewpoints.

Battle of Cut Knife – Cree Resistance (May 2, 1885)

On May 2, 1885, Cree and Assiniboine fighters led by Chief Poundmaker repelled government forces at Cut Knife Hill (Saskatchewan). Despite superior numbers, the militia retreated after six hours of fighting — one of the rebellion’s few Indigenous tactical successes. 🇨🇦 #NorthWestRebellion #CutKnife #Poundmaker #Canada #Colonization

Execution of Louis Riel (Nov 16, 1885)

Following his surrender, Louis Riel was tried for treason in Regina, found guilty, and executed on November 16, 1885. His death ignited national debate—respect in Québec, outrage among Métis and Indigenous peoples—and remains a defining moment in Canadian identity. #NorthWestRebellion #LouisRiel #Canada #Regina #Colonization

@amandamakepeace The Buffalo Soldiers should def not be a source of pride. They are a shameful moment in #BIPOC history. Worse than #ICE is today... Murdering non-white peoples so white people could have the land...
#Native #Indigenous #Colonization

Beyonce wearing Buffalo Soldiers shirtCalled all sorts of names most of them insulting- by various groups, the men of these two regiments were dubbed "Buffalo Soldiers" by their Indian opponents. They were proud of this title, and the most prominent feature of the Tenth Cavalry's regimental crest was the figure of a Buffalo.

Their antagonists were the enemies of peace, order and settlement: warring Indians, bandits, cattle thieves, murderous gunmen, bootleggers, trespassers, and Mexican revolutionaries. All these they met many times and with success, regardless of extremes of climate and terrain that ranged from the broken, rugged, and torrid Big Bend of Texas to the rolling plains, badlands and sub-freezing temperatures of South Dakota. Many a frontier official owed his life and his job to the support given him by these black men in blue, and many more farmers and ranchers slept soundly in their beds because a thin line of black troopers guarded them from harm.

After much reflection, the term "Megamachinocene" seems to me to be the most accurate: it emphasizes the advent of technical-organizational systems (Mumford's "megamachine") which, much more than the human species in general, are responsible for the current geological transformation.

be suspicious of "decolonization" with no other mention of frameworks, ideologies, or practices.

there were pre-colonization forms of authoritarianism. if they don't specify, they might think the past was cool or the present is just fine.

some people who don't specify are liberals/radlibs or authoritarian leftists (tankies).
