#Displayport

I never would've expected "Neo" as an #Apple product name but #MacBookNeo is looking like it's set to be a market share disruptor. Without any student discount, without any #Shopee sales and whatnot, the Neo's just 2499 MYR lol. That's fucking ridiculous, when #Windows laptops with half the capability and a quarter of the build quality would at least cost 3-3.5k MYR.

I still think the
#MacBookAir is better value if you could afford it (hard not to, when ~1-3 gen older Airs go for 3k or less brand new, pretty often), but, these Neos are such a sweet deal if u tryna save a lil bit more money or buy in bulk or something for schools/offices. As the tech guy of my family and friends, this laptop is such an easy recommend (assuming that I deem them able to work around #macOS 's weird quirks).

Notable specs:

- A18 Pro
#ARM chip (what a flex, same chip as the #iPhone 16 Pro and it's more capable than Apple's M1)

- 8GB RAM (expected, since other Macs have been upgraded to min of 16GB for a while now - and perfectly sufficient on macOS)

- 256GB SSD (not a lot but it's never not been enough on my own Macs even as a dev)

- 1080p webcam

- WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 6

The only downsides:

- Instead of
#Thunderbolt/#USB4 ports, it only has 1x USB-3 (charging, data, #DisplayPort) and 1x USB-2 port (charging, data) - this is a slight bummer and USB-2 in this day and age on a laptop is a little weird and confusing, should've both been USB-3, but at least its USB-3 port is capable of DP

- No
#TouchID unless you get the 512GB SSD model - prolly not a big deal

- Keyboard isn't backlit I believe, but yea not something I've ever used

- NOT a haptic trackpad u might be familiar with on other MacBooks - prolly the biggest deal to me, but to some reviewers who've tested it out, it's not functionally different?

@swanson pulls out HDCP-stripping HDMI Splitter kinda like that one?

Maybe hang out with #VESA instead, cuz they do #DisplayPort and are pretty chill...

¿HDMI o DisplayPort en Linux? La respuesta es clara, sobre todo en AMD Radeon

Limited vs Full Range Video

HDMI, DisplayPort, and SDI — What Engineers Keep Getting Wrong If you’ve ever seen: Gray blacks Crushed shadow detail Blown highlights A “washed-out” LED wall A QC rejection for “illegal levels” There’s a very good chance you were dealing with a range mismatch. Limited vs Full range video is one of the most misunderstood topics in AV engineering. And the confusion only gets worse when you move between HDMI, DisplayPort, and SDI. Let’s fix that. First: What […]

So, there's a computer that's using a big LCD #TV (connected by #DisplayPort via #HDMI adapter) as its main #display, along with a small #LCD computer monitor as secondary (connected by #VGA).

Today I noticed that there is a delay of a frame or three before the mouse cursor moves on the TV. There is no such delay on the secondary.

Interesting. I wonder what's going on with the TV?

Dear #Fediverse #Video people, does there exist such a thing as a #VGA to #Displayport adapter? I have an elderly machine that only has VGA, and my KVM only has Displayport. The usual suppliers of cheap electronic tat are only advertising DP-to-VGA adapters, and I'm not convinced that cheap electronic tat will convert in the direction I need. I definitely don't need high resolution or ridiculous refresh rates - this is VGA, and I'm not an #̶a̶u̶d̶i̶o̶p̶h̶o̶o̶l̶ video gamer.

I'll keep misusing #SocialMedia, for #BugReport issues! 😅

#Linux #VRR / #AdaptiveSync / #AMD #FreeSync, via #DisplayPort needs some work!

This FLICKERING is distracting, to put it mildly!🤬

Thought my old Monoprice 27" monitor had bitten the dust. But it was just a bent DisplayPort cable terminal! Phew!

I rue the thought of having to replace this with a newer monitor with only a hint of a bevel. My decade+ old monitor has bevels for days! Plenty of room for command hooks and hanging all my doo-dads & Casio watches around it.

Front, side, and rear images of the Monoprice 27in IPS-Glass Panel Pro LED Monitor WQHD from 2013. The bevels are 1.25" wide!

If you are not aware:

⚠️ HDMI is not Linux-friendly
The HDMI Forum ❌ rejects open-source implementations of HDMI 2.1.
This is hostility toward Linux and open source, not a technical limitation.

✅ Use DisplayPort instead !
