Since my old #TV is dying I am looking for a new #television this black friday. I am currently doing a final check for some of the most interesting offers. And one thing I noticed only now is that apparently #Hisense #65U8Q has a #DisplayPort input 😍 Not mentioned in specs on the product page or on DisplaySpecifications web page. Just shown on one photo, and I found a YT video testing it. Looks like an awesome TV for a #Linux PC with #AMD #Radeon GPU ( #HDMI Forum does not allow 2.1 support).

Didn't knew this about HDMI?
Doesn't go against #eu intention to use #standard #connectors for all the devices?.

#displayport is a much better option.

The EU should #ban #HDMI on new devices.

Arg, why is #Blackmagic the only one that has a media converter for #HDMI over #SFP?

#AliExpress only has over RJ45 and IP. Both have some quirks.

The one that has the best video quality has laggy usb. (But all of them support HDCP - even the latest version).

The blackmagic one doesn't 🙃

Reminder that #HDMI hates #opensource and actively gets in the way of progress because they're basically entirely in the pocket of #Hollywood.

this was also a problem with the Flipper's 'game addon' and many other projects.

IMHO, HDMI just needs to die and be replaced by better things, like DisplayPort inside USB-C (does everything HDMI does, better, faster, and more opensource friendly), although if they can clean up their act that would also be welcome.

@kernellogger @stereo as far as i can see it is only a problem for #AMD devies. #NVIDIA e.g. has a working #HDMI 2.1 support on linux. So AMD needs do change they things how they handle their licencing in the same way as Nvidia or #Valve can use a different hardware...

La #SteamMachine sale solo con HDMI 2.0. El 2.1 es imposible con el controlador libre por requisitos de mierda del "HDMI Forum".

El #HDMI es un puto estándar privativo... pero, claro, la Steam Machine se enfoca en los salones / televisiones y pocas tienen #DisplayPort.
