Why are all these publications acting like EBV is this new mysterious thing? I’ve been screaming since 2020 that none of y’all want a virus that’s going to be dormant in your system that will come out and WRECK YOU when it gets reactivated.

People on Facebook and twitter laughed at me. I was extremely active, in my career and going to school (because I could tell the easy mortgage days we’re coming to an end in 2004, I was in funding instead of processing at that point, but still . . .)

It took me more than half a year to heal enough to get out of bed and go back to work because I kept trying to push through because I didn’t know I had mono until my PCP sent me to psychiatry because they insisted it was mental illness. After 30 minutes he knew it was mono and sent me to the lab. Not mental illness.

Anyway, everything was great. I was still getting some PEM at the end of my work week but I thought that was just because I was in my 30s. I thought it was normal to feel hung over on Saturday mornings even if I just went home on Friday night and went to bed after work. I thought that was just what being mid 30 was about.

Then I was in a car accident in 2012 that wrecked some discs in my neck and I woke up feeling like I had mono all over again. And it has never gone away. Ever.

Also, not covid related, but I saw this the other day. It makes me wonder if a whole bunch of women have been diagnosed with herpes when they actually don’t have herpes. I had a friend tell me about how she was diagnosed with herpes in a college health center even though they didn’t swab her or take blood. For years she would disclose to everyone she was dating and then once she left college and got health insurance and saw a real doctor about it they found that she didn’t have herpes. Halle Berry was diagnosed with herpes until they did tests and realized it was dry vagina from perimenopause.

How many women are walking around thinking they actually have genital herpes just because of their EBV infection? You would think that they would get follow up blood work, but it wasn’t until about 2009 that I realized if you go to an STD clinic and say “test me for everything!” they don’t test you for herpes. If you’re not looking at those results you wouldn’t know. You would think you’ve been tested for everything.

I appreciate this article so much because just yesterday I was complaining to somebody about how I don’t understand the point of the shingles vaccine if the varicella zoster virus is already in me how does adding a little bit more help me?

But then this paragraph made it make sense. I still don’t get how it will prevent a reactivation, that’s a question for my doctor even though he never wants to answer EBV questions because he knows they forced that virus on everyone just like they’re doing with Covid and he knows I’m mad about it.
