Deer #antler that I found while hiking through the forest recently. I'm giving it to a #Wsanec Tseycum elder who made me a protection necklace that he handcrafted from one larger antler.

Close-up shot of a single deer antler (shed) resting on a mossy surface. The antler, predominantly light brown with darker accents, exhibits a smooth, curving form with two tines pointing upwards. The foreground consists of a bed of vibrant green moss intermingled with brown pine needles and decaying leaves

#FungiFriday
A healthy colony of oak stump bonnet caps aka cluster bonnets in the forest at Colquitz Creek/River Park.
They typically grow off decaying hardwoods (most often oak & chestnut) & are prolific on Vancouver Island.

Laboratory studies have shown that this fungus is resistant to aluminum. It's been investigated for its ability to decolorize synthetic dyes that are used in the textile, plastics, biomedical & foodstuff industries.

A close-up view of a decaying log, featuring a cluster of small brown mushrooms on its exposed end. The mushrooms exhibit a variety of forms, with conical and semi-rounded caps. The log’s surface is textured, displaying dark, rough bark and a reddish-brown section where the mushrooms are growing. Surrounding the log are vibrant green ivy leaves and forest floor litter.
