[PROJET] rnb-panel

Mutter / GNOME Shell 48 is a great opportunity to clean up all those old performance bug reports now.
I spent 4 hours this morning to review and close 18 tickets likely to be solved by the dynamic triple buffering and other fixes from the last 2 years: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-s

There's roughly a dozen more that I marked as needinfo, and that I'd close in a month if they are not proven to occur on GNOME 48.

Is there a way in GNOME 48 to display all registered global hotkeys? Just yesterday, I upgraded to Fedora Workstation 42. Today, I started Vivaldi the first time after the upgrade and got "spammed" with 4 windows asking for global hotkeys (interestingly with the generic app icon and no helpful window title).

I thought, I'd find the global hotkeys in the settings app but … 🤷

Edit: I should add that this is about the global hotkeys desktop portal.

Update on the "suspended" window state not firing when obscuring windows: it turns out to be multiple bugs :blobsweats:

* The bug affecting / presumably remains a bug in handling subsurfaces: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/

* The heisenbug part of the issue I was seeing where even gnome-system-monitor was not responding to obscuring surfaces turns out to be caused by the "Dim Background Windows" extension for … I reported it here: github.com/stephane-13/gnome-s

No joke, I had this article cooking for almost a decade, and finally came around to actually write it. It's about making GNOME Shell both pretty and functional, and there was some scope creep into configuring handy utilities for the terminal and running applications. I hope it serves some inspiration! dammit.nl/pretty-gnome.html

After GNOME 48's dynamic double/triple buffering, what I'm really looking forward to see, eventually, is being able to recover from GPU state resets: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/

On Linux, the open source AMDGPU graphics drivers in are infamous for making everything lock up in your face like that.

I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping this will happen by the time distros collectively ditch X11 in favor of .

Wait a minute, the "Extension Manager" app from flathub.org/apps/com.mattjakem has an "Upgrade Assistant" feature to batch-check all your extensions for compatibility with the next version, and nobody among you has told me about it?!

And it's not even mentioned as a bullet point in the app's features list?! :psyduck:

This "Upgrade Assistant" hamburger menu item deserves to be more widely known.

Screenshot of the "Extension Manager" app's "Upgrade Assistant" dialog showing the text, "GNOME 48 supports 14 out of 20 of the extensions currently installed on the system", followed by a gauge that says "70% compatible", and a list of the compatibility status of all the extensions installed on my computer
