Technobabble: I wouldn't call this a "Linux" problem. For instance, the same Linux kernel is part of both GNU/Linux and Android, but the issue is broader: "everything is a file in a directory tree" is how Unix has worked since the 1970s, and all its descendants follow that model — including Apple's desktop and mobile systems. On phones (and dedicated cameras), camera apps save images to well‑known directories and gallery apps read and index those folders. The same method works on any #FreeDesktop environment: keep your photos in
