@TheZeldaZone I know.
Cheap garbage cables can be a real pain in the ass. Ask me how I know!
And as soon as one needs more than 1080p60 4:2:0 8bpc and/or 2m cable lenght, shit gets expensive in HDMI territory...

Wenns nach mir ginge wäre #HDSDI über #Glasfaser statt #HDMI der Standard!

@nickzoic @vwestlife the priblem is rather that I have some weird stuff that doesn't take your average converter.
Personally I prefer #OpenStandards like #DisplayPort, #SDI / #HDSDI, #DVI & #VGA / #RGB over proprietary stuff (i.e. #HDMI)...
Ja, #HDMI ist shice und #DisplayPort und damit #USBc ist besser...
@zima true, true...
Personally, I think #HDMI is garbage and instead #ConsumerElectronics should've gone the same way as #BroadcastEquipment and switched over to #HDSDI over a decade and use #optical versions of it now...
@figuratum @jwildeboer There's however a reason why USB-C maxes out at 48V DC @ 5A and if you need strain relief and unplug/pull prevention there are "#Neutrik-Cinnectors" which basically take the keyed shield & latch from #XLR and just insert a different plug into those.
Looking for a service manual for a TVLogic LVM-171WP if anyone can tell me where to find one please? #tv #television #pvm #righttorepair #sdi #hdsdi #hd #highdefinition
@icedquinn Interestingly, #Intel did workaround that whole #HDMI assholeism by technically not implementing HDMI & #HDCP on their cards but only #DisplayPort and instead solder-down #DP-to-HDMI converter ICs for HDMI outputs...
#UnpopularOpinion but not making #SDI & 12G-#HDSDI over #Fiber mandatory was the biggest missed opportunity by @EU_Commission to make shit just work!
@arstechnica #HDMI is a plight to everyone and if it were my decision the @EU_Commission would've forced #Fiber-based #HDSDI into all displays and GPUs per law over a decade ago...
If I were #AMD / @gpuopen I'd literally add #HDSDI ports with [mini] #BNC or rather #SFF8472 / #SFP+ ports for #SDI modules similar to this one:
https://www.fs.com/products/71317.html
@sarayalth TBH, Both #DisplayPort & #HDMI are bad and if it was my decision, #HDSDI-12G over #OM5 #Fiber would've been the standard instead!
@chrisisgr8 ever heard of #HDMI- / #HDSDI - #Matrix & #KVM switches?
If setup correctly, you can do X computers on Y desks and instantly switch between stuff...
@norwin yes, that is a problem!
Just like #HDMI is being used to kill #VCR's...
Now one needs to literally crack #HDCP to even record console gameplay or #unencrypted #PublicBroadcast|s...
I just wished #HDSDI over #Fiber would've become the standard instead.
@liz Personally, I have an #HDMI - #Recorder and I'm still pissed that #HDMI was adopted and not #SDI / #HDSDI for cabling outside of professional studios.
Cuz it's a pain in the ass to remove the value-removing bs that is #HDCP...
You know what was needed to record shit before #HDMI? A #SCART cable and a #VCR!
@Archarzel yeah.
I'm pissed that #HDMI is so #Inconvenient...
If it wasn't an expensive pain in the ass I would've switched to 12G-#HDSDI over fiber ages ago...
The fact that Matrix Switches often don't work unless one adds an HDCP-Stripper before the inputs is infuriating me even more...
