Often an opinion, a custom, seems absurd when we are young, and advancing in life, we find the reason. Mustn’t we conclude that certain habits aren’t so ridiculous? One is lead to think sometimes that they were established by people who had read the entire book of life, and that they are judged by people who, despite their esprit, have only read a few pages.

Interesting post on LinkedIn from Victor James Brierley, Whisky Filth: Scotch Whisky Bonded Warehouses, that nobody knows anything about.
The picture shows unfeasibly large Maturation Sheds, in the Forth Valley. If you go to the top of the nearby hill, Dumyat, near Stirling, you can clearly see lots and lots more of them. All over Alloa and most of Menstrie. Greenkerse, Cambus, Blackgrange.

Text: The list of unexeptional towns, containing vast maturation sheds goes on and on.

That's only the mundane places, we're not even mentioning the NON mundane places. Perthshire, Speyside, Islay, Skye, Stirlingshire, The Highlands, Orkney. And all the Distilleries, 140+ of them. Then, we can speak about the Independent Bottlers, THEIR maturation places and the new ones being built, or planned, every day.

These are only the ones we know about. Every time we venture off the beaten track, we find other ones, we didn't know existed. I know quite a lot about Scotland, it always surprises me, finding new ones.

I only found out about the vast new Dewars maturation sheds, at Poneil, off the M74, just today!

No surprise really, as the contents are worth £billions and even the people who own them, play down the true value of them.

It's probably the only the only case in the World of a giant, established Industry, underplaying its true value.

Wonder why?
