Dornoch Academy pupils did a great job helping restore saltmarsh at a site on the Dornoch Firth last week.
They used plants grown on in a polytunnel at their school, gradually adapted the grasses to increased salt levels, before they were moved to their outdoor growing site. Green Shores are delighted to be working with them!

Back in 2018, this land was dry, cracked, and lifeless. A place where nothing seemed to grow, and the future looked just as barren. But instead of giving up, people took action. They dug water trenches—simple, yet powerful. These trenches helped retain moisture, rehydrating the soil. Slowly but surely, life returned. By 2019, patches of green emerged. By 2020, trees and grass started reclaiming the land. And by 2021, what was once dry, red earth had transformed into a thriving, lush landscape. Now, in 2025, the impact continues to grow: ✅ 14 million trees recovered ✅ 315,000 water trenches dug ✅ A cooler, greener, and more resilient environment This isn’t just a past success story—it’s an example of what we can replicate across the world. Nature-based solutions work. When we restore the land, we heal the planet. The greener it gets, the cooler it becomes. What if we scaled this up everywhere?
