I got some things done today but getting out to take some photos wasn't one of those things. So here you go... The needle minder for my current cross-stitch project. Against all odds, I'm someone who does cross-stitch now. I decided to try it out a few years ago and it's pretty cool. It's better than scrolling, for sure.

So, hubby and I did splurge on each other for Solstice presents. He got a needlepoint "painting" he made for me of crows (based on a Japanese painting) framed. And while at the same shop today, I found an original map of the area we live in now from the 1870's -- that I'm having mounted in an archival frame for him. Giving #LocalBusiness our holiday shopping (the needlepoint supplies were also from a shop in #Maine). Pics will be posted soon...

I am sure I am not the first to discover this technique... Loading up 8 separate needles before plunging into an hour of work.

Turns out, the part that takes the most time is cutting, splitting and threading the floss. When you prep as much of it as possible, embroidering goes with next to no interruptions!

I feel like I opened a door to a new world today.

I need to pull upon the collective consciousness of the interwebs to locate a needlework pattern.

Here's what I know:

My husband saw the kit in a San Francisco store about 10 years ago
The store likely sold all sorts of needle kits, so this pattern could have been #needlepoint #crossstitch #crewel #embroidery or something else
The pattern is described as a "hummingbird chasing the tail of a plane"
Only the tail end of the plane was visible
The plane in questions is a French Nieuport, possibly model 17, with red, white, and blue on the tail
He's pretty sure the background was white or light colored
And the hummingbird was larger than life in comparison to the plane

Internet searches are pulling up a lot of garbage, especially AI slop.

Slowly chipping away at the Turkey Rug Stitch on this wooloo/cosmog project! Those tassel-y bits will be trimmed short when it's done, hopefully making a nice fluffy carpet-effect for Wooloo's wool. :bob_ross: 🤞

A bit further along, the entirety of the "shadowed" part of wooloo's wool is done in Turkey rug stitch in a slightly off-white pale grey.

More of the Turkey rug stitch is done, slowly filling the bright white parts of wooloo's wool, though there's still lots to go.

The ends of the tassels have been flipped up, end-on to the camera, to show a little bit what it might look like when it's eventually trimmed short— though there's still a ways to go until then.

Started a new #Pokemon themed embroidery last night, my first time playing around with Turkey Rug Stitch. Still need a lot of practice with it… it's really uneven right now. Hopefully I get better at it as I go! :da_sweat:

The hoop is 6 inches in diameter, for scale.

A WIP embroidery project hoop sits on a tabletop surrounded by embroidery tools and ephemera. The project design features a wooloo, a fluffy sheep pokémon, standing and looking up at cosmog, a cute cosmic cloud of gases that bobs in the air. Framing the wooloo are some drawings that will eventually become floral accents, like leaves, flowers, and fern fronds. Only the legs, face, and part of wooloo's fluffy coat is embroidered, the rest in drawn in washable blue marker pen.

Hubby has taken up a new hobby -- needlepoint! He describes it as both meditative and also challenging -- like putting together a puzzle. Here are a couple of his finished pieces! Also, an excellent used book I picked up last year, which covers embroidery stitches, patches and crocheting -- useful for #VisibleMending and fixing up some knitted and crocheted pieces!
