I was pointed at this blog post amberwilliams.io/blogs/buildin and it seems to reflect my feelings about #PKMS lately: it's extremely hard to find one that works for me, because I don't need an app. I need a framework that would work alongside me, not force me into its limitations.

As the org-roam manual says,

> One key advantage to Org-roam is that building on top of Emacs gives it malleability. This is especially important for note-taking workflows. It is our belief that note-taking workflows are extremely personal, and there is no one tool that’s perfect for you. Org-mode and Org-roam allows you to discover what works for you, and build that perfect tool for yourself.

In the end, the best tool for me was #TiddlyWiki. I just hated the UX. Well, now that I'm back to making my own tooling, I decide the UX and it works the way I need it to. And for me, running ripgrep over my notes is a perfectly acceptable global search solution.

Treesheets as an information organizer?

looking for some #Logseq alternatives. am a (mostly) happy Logseq user, but there are a few friction points and i’d be willing to consider something new.

looking for something that is…

  • block based (goes for editing, tagging, embedding, transcluding, etc)
  • a not awful mobile experience (i don't do a ton of entry on mobile, but i do like to reference things from time to time)
  • offline capable (i can deal if something is cloud based if it's e2ee and available offline, online-only tools are a non-starter)
  • no AI crap (or at least be easy to turn off, and not a core/integral part of the thing)

stuff i've tried: Obsidian, Anytype (though this was a while ago, admittedly), Craft, Notion, DEVONthink

boosts appreciated!

Newbie (kinda) question regarding analog PKMS

I regularly follow r/PKMS and other similar subreddits, where I've noticed a growing trend of posts about AI and knowledge creation. While I understand the value of AI, I'm often perplexed by how people are approaching its use in creating knowledge:

1. Knowledge is created when one understands the process behind reaching a conclusion. However, with AI solely summarizing information, people tend to focus on memorization rather than cultivating critical thinking skills. The absence of a thought process is concerning.

2. Despite advancements in AI, it's still not 100% accurate. This raises questions about its ability to generate knowledge that can be verified and validated.

While I acknowledge the benefits of using AI, creating knowledge through this means is fundamentally different from true understanding and creation.

Can I save rocketbook notes to markdown?

My repository of personal notes contains around 600 entries at the moment. There's a lot of useful information in there. However, as time goes on, I find myself forgetting about its existence. I've thought about it and reached the following conclusion: not finding the information that I need in the moment is so (mentally) painful that I am inadvertently avoiding looking into my notes first.

I'm curious what others think about this. Any solutions?

Hello @johnnydecimal :ablobwavereverse: I thought I was on your email list, but I missed this. Just purchased and will give it a go as I've decided to fully move over to @obsidian @obsidianmd from @logseq 🥹 [My vault had gotten too big to reliably sync via icloud]. Very pleased with #ObsidianSync it's a keeper #pkm #pkms #markdown #obsidian #obsidianmd #logseq Will try it in #bearapp bear.app/ too. Ironically I resisted obsidian because I struggled with the concept of managing folders. 🫠 Tagging lots so that more people can learn about this great tool. The Bear, Obsidian and universal markdown compatibility options are chef's kiss. 😎
