"Show up!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

The future belongs to those who commit!

So show up!

What brings about this line of thought today? Because I noticed a lot of visits to this post yesterday:

"To win in the race to the future, you need to decide to show up at the starting line.”

Read the post from February 2017. It's back when I was just starting this daily series years ago. Intrigued, I dug into my writing about the topic of showing up, and it's something I have covered a few times in the years since.

"If you are going to show up at the starting line for the future, make sure that you don't show up late!"

"Show up early!"

"It's a better idea to create the future than to just show up for it."

"Define your future, don't just show up for it."

So why not just show up? I mean, today! Show up!

Why does it matter?

Because the simple act of "showing up" is the most basic foundational principle for anyone who wants to succeed in a fast-changing world. It's a decision not just to participate in tomorrow, but a decision to engage with it, get involved, steer it, and direct it. It's the difference between being a spectator and being the architect of your own destiny.

I used Gemini to feed all of the above posts with a view to seeing what points I've raised about the importance of showing up. What I got was a list of 10 reasons why you must 'show up.' It's a good list!

Read the post for more!

So what should you do today?

Show up!

Refactored Analysis of TikTok's Content Moderation

The #TikTok CEO's comments seem to confirm my suspicion: the #platform is designed to deliver #content without adequately filtering for #extremistviewpoints during its rapid-fire serving process. While a faster #review is technically possible when a #video is uploaded, the current #moderationprocess is clearly insufficient before #content is served to the public.

This #system works exactly as #badactors need it to. They abuse the platform to spread #radicalizedcontent, and #TikTok appears to do little about it. This is less a failure of #proactive effort and more a consequence of the platform's core #design.

The Algorithmic "#RabbitHole"

The system's priorities appear to be purely #political and #engagement-driven. If a user engages with one piece of #extremistcontent—even through an unrelated #hashtag—the #algorithm starts pushing a flood of similar extremist material to them. This creates a confusing array of user profiles that engage with conflicting #ideologies (e.g., both #extremistright and #extremistleft content), making it difficult to pin down a person's exact #politicalalignment.

I believe the #AI is designed to profile every possible vulnerability—#loneliness, #desperation, #politicalviews—to keep users #engaged for as long as possible. The system operates without any discernible #ethicallogic. If ethical guardrails exist, the #AI certainly doesn't appear to be learning in a safe or positive way.

"Define your future, don't just show up for it." - Futurist Jim Carroll

Do you make things happen, or watch things happen? Do you move forward with intention, or sit back as a passive observer? Do you take the initiative or wait for others to start you up?

Here's what I know - one of the most important things you can do is to stop simply showing up for whatever happens next. I fed 9 years' worth of my blog posts to Google Gemini and asked it, "What actions have I written about that show a proactive mindset?" It came back with the ideas below, and I must admit, these 25 "mindset hacks" are pretty powerful ideas designed to transform your approach to tomorrow, empowering you to build the future you envision - rather than simply letting it happen to you.

It all begins with a core philosophy: you are not a victim of circumstance but the designer of your own life. Every decision you make today is laying the foundation for tomorrow's reality. This transformation starts with one foundational mindset.

1. The Architect Mindset: See yourself as the architect of your future, not a passive tenant just living in it. Your daily choices, habits, and actions are the materials and blueprints for the life you are actively building.

25. The "Define, Don't Follow" Mindset. Don't wait for others to define your future for you. Be the one who asks the big questions, proposes the bold ideas, and takes the courageous first steps.

These are the two mindsets that should form your core philosophy: you are not a victim of circumstance but the designer of your destiny. Every decision you make today is laying the foundation for tomorrow's reality.

To get there, you need to adapt. Read the post for 23 more.

"The future is an attitude!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

It's Monday morning. What are you waiting for?

With that being the case, why not have an image where I'm staring up into a teleportation portal? It's my future, and I get to imagine it!

You should do the same thing.

If you're feeling too comfortable right now with the future, you probably aren't thinking hard enough about the trends that will reshape your reality. You need to be scared; you need to be nervous; you need to have big ideas; you need to stretch your imagination; you need to be prepared to accept that everything is going to change—and most importantly, you need to be ready for action. After all, there might one day be teleportation portals - not in our life, but sometime!

That's why you need to think about this simple fact - the future isn't just. something you Watch - it's something you embody. The future is an attitude. While everyone else is busy tracking trends and technologies, they're missing something crucial: it's not just about knowing what's coming—it's about how you approach it, internalize it, and act on it.

The most successful people don't just observe the future; they have a mindset that embraces it and takes immediate steps to make it real. Anyone can read about emerging trends, but those who truly thrive in tomorrow's world cultivate specific attitudes that transform challenges into opportunities—and then act on them without hesitation. With that being the case, think about the mindsets that will help you stay ahead.

And most important - do something today - right now - Monday morning - that will get you moving! Here are 10 ideas you should think about right now - and 10 things you should commit to doing THIS MORNING.

Later this morning, Futurist Jim Carroll will have his winter tires swapped out. He’s preparing for a future that involves warmer weather.

Dear uncomplicated Friends,

I have to make lunch soon. I keep it as simple as possible. I find it helps health to add garlic, turmeric, ginger and olive oil.

Been looking at #proactive #health, through #diet, #exercise etc.
Not up to speed yet, so welcome any ideas? Too much sitting in front of a screen, needs to be #balanced by movement. I get that.

Anyways time for me to harvest some #thyme, #sage and chop #garlic...
