@sadmin
Yeah, thanks for the Suggestion. The thing is, I couldn‘t describe it in a meaningful was. The System suddenly signed out one time while I was saving a new #rnote file. The file was okay, was just annoying.
I was hoping that the bug-tool will create a helpful system report. But after it couldn’t get to bugzilla, I accidentally discarded the report.
Thought updating that bug report tool might help noobs like me to contribute meaningful feedback directly to gitlab.
When teaching, I've been using Xournal++ with a Wacom tablet as digital whiteboard and have been pretty happy with it.
A couple of days ago, I came across this Reddit post:
https://reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1luqtmh/just_wanted_to_give_a_shoutout_to_xournal/
where someone suggested an alternative called rnote:
https://github.com/flxzt/rnote
Because the snap was outdated, I made a PR to update it to the latest version:
https://github.com/soumyaDghosh/rnote-snap/pull/2
After trying it out, I'm impressed and am considering using it for class this fall!
But I'm using the process of working through problems to re-acquaint myself with using my drawing pad as I try to ramp up practicing art again as well as testing out different #FOSS "doodle" apps, i.e. simple programs I can launch when I want to visually work something out without fussing with a whiteboard. So far #Rnote has been really impressive for this! Highly recommend. https://github.com/flxzt/rnote
So I gave #RNote a try. It looks promising, especially on a #GNOME desktop. But it's nowhere near as feature-rich as #XournalPlusPlus. Of course, RNote is still in its early stages, so that's not surprising. I'll stick with Xournal++ for the time being, but I'll keep an eye on RNote.
Rnote 0.12 Released with Improved Linux Note-Taking Features
A major new release of Rnote, an open-source app for taking handwritten notes, sketching out ideas and annotating documents and pictures, is out. Rnote 0.12 brings several new features, new customisation and configuration options, user experience buffs, bug fixes, and other lower-level tune-ups. For those unfamiliar with it, Rnote is a digital note-taking app built using GTK4 and Rust. It’s primarily intended to be used with stylus input (so includes pen pressure, stroke styles, button actions, etc) but supports typed text entry, shapes, importing images, etc too. Rnote offers a range of document layouts, from fixed pages to infinite canvases, :sys_more_orange:

Any #rnote users here?
Why is so much more frustrating to write with a graphics tablet on a mac when compared to Linux?
On Mac, I have to zoom it a lot and write large letters. Don't need to do the same on Linux.
One is only half fixed, GTK applications, specifically #Rnote had tiny scaling on my Windows 11 laptop. I was able to change it, however lack of fractional scaling definitely made it... touch friendly. I wasn't able to get GDK_DPI_SCALE to work.
I don't know what's causing an issue (maybe a recent update) but #rnote uses something like 8G mem
could get it back down to around 1G by saving but after using it a bit longer it just gets back up again
Probably has something to do with PDFs and stuff

Why is Apple's #Freeform app so good on #iPad? What is the equivalent for #Android? #Linux (on 2-in-1 or tablet)?
#RNote on Linux? I just sold my 2-in-1 so can't test RNote right now to compare. But interested in others' opinions.
Anything else out there that's as clean as Freeform? I just reach for it anytime I'm laying anything out, like designing a room or story boarding or making a design board.
If you have a graphics tablet, you must absolutely check out Rnote!
I've been using it for a few weeks on Linux and Mac (for work) and I've been enjoying using it.
Earlier, I used to use a notebook, but with a graphics tablet there's no need to hunch over a desk to write on paper. That used to cause me lower back pain. I can now lean back in my chair, tilt the tablet and write easily.

It is also free software!
Me: sits there for 2 hours thinking about a problem involving vectors, and it doesn't work.
Also me: makes this simple drawing in #RNote and implements it in 1 minute.

Je teste #Rnote https://github.com/flxzt/rnote pour griffonner (c'est comme marmonner mais avec un crayon) sur l'écran plutôt qu'au dos des cartons de pâtes (que je préfère réserver aux dessins des enfants 😉 ). Ça me semble pratique. On peut exporter en SVG ou dans un PDF.

Another great find: "Rnote"

There is a snap for it on Ubuntu, search the app store. Enable all the permissions to get drag/drop working. (I had to start the app a few times.)
Looks amazing. I love these canvas kind of apps that blend art and notes and images. One can also open and annotate PDF files!
