#RaspberryPi3 #GoPiGo3 Carl still runs on 8 NiMH batteries, and just today received his 13th set of new Eneloop 2000mAH AA cells.

His “Playtime” was down to 3.5 hours with a 3 hour charge time after 1421 cycles. (In the past I have replaced his batteries after 800-900 docking cycles.)

It really is a miracle that after more than 7 years (59,521 hours) of “life” - GoPiGo3 Carl is still walkin’, talkin’, and lis’nen to me. (And I’m still telling him nearly every day: “Hey Carl, Go To Sleep!”

Robot Carl (with 8 inch tall, single eye Minion character Carl) atop the GoPiGo3 differential drive robot platform. Carl's eye pupil is replaced by a PiCamera, and he has a microphone for speech recognition. In the photo the floor glows from the LED on Carl's floor facing speaker which he uses for his text to speech communication. He also has a forward facing time of flight range sensor that he uses to ensure he docks with millimeter accuracy.

Ben #dragonos ça juste marche out of the box.
Le #raspberrypi3 souffre un peu mais c'est tout à fait utilisable.
Mon #rspb est reconnu sans rien faire.
En fouinant sur l'utilisation de #gqrx j'ai découvert qu'on peut le faire bosser avec un un autre soft pour adapter la fréquence d'écoute en continu de façon à écouter des objets en orbite, dont l'#iss.

My plans for the week:

▪️ install #DietPi on my old #RaspberryPi3 (https://dietpi.com)
▪️ flash the #YunoHost pre-installed disk image to a new MicroSD card and attempt to set it up on on my #RaspberryPi5
▪️ if I'm successful, I'll set up #Jellyfin on it
▪️ create a little storage system for my microSD cards so I can swap them in and out (I won't wipe the one that has #Ubuntu on it, but set it aside so I can use it in the future)

I have a hunch I will ask 🎅 for a new Raspi this coming Christmas... maybe the #RaspberryPi500 😅

Couple of weeks ago my 55 years old father asked, if I could help him smarten their home.
I said, sure, what you need? He told me, that they need to change their thermostat.

So I told him about @homeassistant, I ordered him a Bosch Room Thermostat II 230V, a #Zigbee antenna, and my old #RaspberryPi3.

We spent last day installing the hardware and Home Assistant OS.

This morning I got a message from him:
"The base automatization works, now we need only to fine tune it."

Every board has its app - all my autonomous robots enjoy the low power sipping with just enough processing for their needs with various Pi boards.

Rockchip that I tried hogged the bot's battery down real fast, and ran too hot when taxed hard.

Carl has speech reco, text-to-speech, OpenCV vision, totally autonomous and "plays" 8 hours before needing to return to his dock. "Alive" for 7 years.
