#RedMine

@RosannaSibora
I've been using #Redmine for a while now and it's been a solid choice. It's highly customizable and has a lot of plugins available. If you're looking for something more modern, Taiga is a great alternative with a sleek interface and good collaboration features. I've also heard good things about WeKan for its simplicity and ease of use. Would love to hear about your experiences too! 😊

Here's the thing.

Is #Redmine pretty? No, no it isn't. Any fan of modern SPA would wrinkle their nose.

But it feels (at least) like a tool that you can, with knowledge and skill, hammer into something that's close to perfect for you and/or your team.

This has been pretty successful week in my #selfhosting journey. I got #postgresql running early in the week. I then made my own personal database to play with and got databases running for #freshrss, #redmine, #vikunja, and finally #forgejo. Once I was happy with the setup I did pg_dumpall because I know today I'll probably get over confident and break something. First thing I'm going to do this morning is setup another postgresql #docker and make sure I understand how to import pg_dumpall.

For years I've only queried databases. Setting these up and seeing the data behind the applications has been lot of fun! The access to this data makes me highly motivated to use it in my own ways such as populating my personal database with various stats and then learning Python and Flask to build simple tools for myself.

Jira is a proprietary well known data stealing software engineering project management tool. Why not use open source . Does a pretty good job. May the be with you.

It's the same story that I had with project management apps. There are the likes of #Redmine or Taiga or *shudder* #Jira, which seem fine for big team endeavours but definitely overbloated for personal use. Alternatively there's stuff like #Trello which is so basic you basically just dump all your tasks into a project and that's all you get.

Not a fan of #Redmine, though obviously my experience is limited to whatever version #Ceph has deployed.

  • Very poor markdown support, inline code blocks just don't render at all.
  • Also, if multiple multiline code blocks are present, it gets confused and chunks it up randomly and just gives up on rendering half way through.
  • Also, the Preview only shows you your text in an immutable field without any rendering, great!
  • And to top it all off, the Edit action available on each individual comment on the issue is actually an issue level edit, not a comment level edit. So previous comments and the top level description are immutable, and trying to "edit" actually just allows you to wiggle top level tags and add a new comment at the same time!

This isn't just me preferring the way GitHub does it, because I'm pretty sure GitHub models after older trackers I've used in the past just fine. Redmine is just "different" here I imagine due to legacy debt from a different world than I'm used to.

It might not be a bug or data corruption if your parent and child (subtask) issues are not displayed in a tree-like view in Redmine.

The first sorting rule needs to be set to "Parent task", "Ascending".

Redmine vs рост бизнеса: как мы решали проблемы масштабирования поддержки в Orion soft

Anyone ever migrate a #Redmine instance before?
There are some misc guides out there and it seems straightforward-ish but would love to hear from #AskFedi on personal experiences with doing so, any tricks/tips/findings/links to guides that helped, etc.

Actually first app I spun up, looking to move away from EOL Turnkey linux (debian 11) and onto just a plain debian install. Currently only redmine 5.0 too. Would also like to convert from mysql to postgresql. Unsure of best order of operations.

I wanted to switch from to a VM (because plugin installation seems impossible) and I want to rake my wrists off (pause for applause) at the first sign of an esoteric error, that returns no sensible search results.

@j4n3z zase na druhou stranu, jste vážený platící klient. Zadejte si požadavek a několik let počkejte, až vaše firma dostane rozum a přejde na #Redmine :)

Progress made on figuring out the #Parabola #Redmine lockups. Sometimes when doing `sub process expansion`, rb_f_backquote gets stuck in waitpid_wait, even though the process has exited and is now a zombie. So then that worker process stops being able to do work. Eventually all #uWSGI's workers have this happen, and all requests become 504s. Eventually the buffer of connections fills up, and these turn into 502s. Not sure if this is the same as github.com/unbit/uwsgi/issues/ . This is with #Ruby 2.7.8

Is the #ArchLinux #redmine package just broken? Or am I being extra dumb? bundler/setup complains about pg version mismatch between Gemfile and Gemfile.local, and if comment out the line in Gemfile, then I get an error about it being unable to load json?
