A Visit to the Open-Air Museum Niedersulz, Austria – Part II

Walking through Niedersulz feels like traveling back in time. The museum brings together historical buildings from across the Weinviertel — from humble cottagers’ homes to large farmsteads, complete with animals you can pet, old workshops (including a mother-of-pearl turnery), a traditional schoolhouse, and wine press houses. Each corner tells a story of everyday life and craftsmanship in rural Austria.

Once again, I learned a lot — not only about history but also about working with my Canon AE-1. Even in these photos, there are still many small details I could improve, but that’s part of the process — and part of the joy of learning analog photography.

Roaming around West County I've come across a number of these school buildings, and have seen roads and map sites indicating many others. Amazing to think of a time when, not only did children live around here, but they had somewhere to go within a walk from home. Long run day on Coleman Valley Road to the Watershed Vista. 10 miles easy (some big hills tho)

Every autumn when we head to North Carolina and Tennessee to see the leaves change, we stop by to visit this old schoolhouse in rural Tennessee. In my mind’s eye I can hear the children laughing and playing outside and the ring of the bell which still hangs in the tower.

With the new school year in full swing, this seems like an appropriate image to share. This old one-room school house stands in Harrison, Maine. I'm unable to find much history on it, but I do know it's been used both as a schoolhouse and a church, dating back to the mid 19th century. I took this photo earlier today on a bike ride. This schoolhouse was built in 1884 in Old Brown Deer, enlarged in 1900, and used as a school for grades 1-8 until 1922.

My office this morning. The #Fairhaven #Massachusetts Visitors Center is located in a 1798 Federal-style building built as a private academy. Being a one-man Town department, I had to shovel my way in this morning.
