@tommi @vanillaos try to boot a liveCD with #knoppix or #slax and see how it goes. A #Puppylinux may do too (you can try Debian and Arch based puppies)
If it's fine with a Debian based distro, you may consider Ubuntu or Mint, wich others already suggested they should work.

Note: some hardware company do not authorize bundle re-distribution of drivers: you may need to install them "manually" after OS installation. I have a Vaio with a wifi card like that… so annoying.
