The entrance to this place is so amusing and unexpected. It's literally a side entrance on the other side of a parking lot. They have young, well dressed (and hot) door man who has to flag down all the confused patrons so they find the entrance . Anyways, the spot itself is absolutely beautiful and has a rooftop that overlooks the city. The cocktails here are among the prettiest in the city and that saying a lot considering this is LA.

This is a black and white maritime photo in landscape format of a tug assisting a large container ship to turn through one hundred and eighty degrees prior to docking. Long Beach, California (2016). A calm, but disturbed by propeller wash, dark sea water rises from the base to the one-third up point in the image. To the lower left of centre is a large tug (tractor tug) viewed in profile, her bow pointing to the right. The tug has a black hull lined with many tyres with many more attached to the bow. slightly forward of the tugs centre is a white superstructure with a 'control tower' like wheelhouse on top, with many large, rectangular windows surrounding the bridge. Above the wheelhouse are a number of antennas and a short black signal mast folded backwards. On the tug's bow is a stout line, under tension, that stretches upwards about twenty metres to the centre of the bow of the container ship. The view of the ship is slightly oblique, the bow pointing to the right of the camera and the vessels starboard (right) side in view. The hull is, again, black, with a small amount of the white superstructure visible forward of the stern. The ship's deck is lined with stacks of shipping containers, sixteen across and seven or eight high close to the wheelhouse though the stack slopes downwards with the stack only three high closer to the bow to allow visibility ahead from the bridge. The tug, plus two others, out of view, are turning the ship through 180 degrees prior to docking.

Topanga Canyon CA, May 2020, a long view of the valley from *slightly* up a hill, and what seems to me like an alright example of "working with the land", building cookie cutter communities around and between the trees, mountains & boulders, instead of demolishing & flattening everything.Woodchuck Basin, June 2020, central California foothills of the Sierra Nevada, a decently-sized lake surrounded by forest, reminiscent of Tahoe, with some distant hills with still just a trace of snow at the topStetson Canyon, southern CA, November 2020, late afternoon approaching sunset, a much more "bleached desert" energy, a view down into the valley from slightly above on a hill. The mountains are carved from seismic activity into very distinctive banded formations, populated mostly by grasses and scrub bushes, but as SOON as the elevation flattens, the densely packed geometry of the Simi Valley urban sprawl takes overFrazier Park CA, September 2021, a stretched view of some of the scrubland and hills, with late afternoon sun just barely out of shot to the right. The desert bushes, both tan and brown, are starting to cast long shadows, and while a few signs of human construction can be spotted here and there, the overall mood is "quiet".

His head is just visible above the back of the chair, he is looking to his left, as if aware someone is watching / photographing him. He is wearing a white baseball cap and dark sunglasses. His arms are lying on the arm rests at the sides of the chair. His two legs, just visible, with white socks and shoes. Under the chair and to the right is a jumble of ....stuff ? perhaps something to do with fishing ? A fishing Rod (fishing pole) is visible two metres to his left, resting against the far railings. Beyond the end of the pier is a body of calm medium grey water with a small stone breakwater at the far side. Next to the breakwater is a moored, large ocean liner, slightly blurred out of focus. The hull is black and lined with small portholes. The upper part of the hull and superstructure above, is white, this time lined with square or rectangular windows. Above the upper deck is a row of nine open lifeboats hanging from davits. There are three large, raked funnels beyond the lifeboats in the centre of the ship.

This is a kind of winter SoCal scene that didn't used to be so rare - snow on the highest peaks of surrounding ranges with views of evergreen citrus trees in the valleys below.

Photos of such scenes were very popular postcards for Californians to send to relatives back East socked in with snow...

Snow was not that rare to see on the mountains in winter when I was a kid, but it's increasingly rare now.
