This is a colour sunrise photo in landscape format of a colonial era historic clock tower with contempory high-rise building in the background. Singapore (2015).

Below and to the right of centre is a square, white clock tower with a round dial clock in each corner, with two clock faces in view: one facing the camera and one viewed side-on. The clock face is white with the time in black Roman numerals, the clock hands also in black. The time indicated is nineteen minutes past eight. Above are square colums with a few bells visible inside. On top is a copper-green domed roof. In the background and immediatly behind, perhaps one km away, is the tall, rectangular tower of a high-rise hotel. On top of the high-rise is a large arched and slightly surfboard shaped deck that stretches from beyond the tower to the left, over the tower and off the photo to the right. The top of the deck has railings around the edge, made to look minature by the size of the deck. There are some one story structures and further to the right numerous small palm trees. Surrounding this scene and in the background is a dull orange sky, coloured by the low morning sun and probably atmospheric pollution.

The location: Marina Bay, Singapore. The clock tower belongs to the Victoria Theatre and the high-rise is the Marina Bay Sands hotel, casino and shopping centre.

Mercury rising and the coming rosy dawn.

The first photo was taken during the 'blue hour' of twilight, but an airliner's contrail shows us that rosy hues of brighter twilight are only a few minutes away. Mercury is the brightest object, and we also see some stars in the constellation Libra.

The second photo is a closer look, and we only see Mercury (now higher up), but the horizon has those warm rosy hues that help you forget about the December cold.

There was a real long black cloud out there at first light, straight and wide as a 4 lane highway, the ocean hasn't seen a breath of air, but somehow that cloud turned into a super highway and buggered off. It's hard to predict if there's going to be color in the golden hour. #Dawn #Ocean #Clouds

Looking across the harbour, while the earth is still black as night, the first light over the horizon is contrasted by an angry long thick black cloud. Below, the ocean is smooth and motionless, the perfect mirror of the sky above. 30 minutes away from sunrise

Pink-orange waves of colour over the horizon. it's almost sunrise and the clouds are picking up colours and spilling them onto the smooth ocean below, where they are separated only by black tree line on the horizon and islands in between
