Austrian Speedwell is an important native wildflower in dry meadows, forest edges, and open grasslands. Its nectar-rich, violet-blue flowers attract a variety of pollinators, including wild bees, solitary wasps, butterflies, and hoverflies, supporting local insect diversity.

A pink club-shaped hairy bud with five ribs and a pink geranium flower are stuck in a 5.6 mm bullet casing. Behind it is a 9 mm pare bullet casing, which is decorated with a flower and several buds of blue speedwell, a daisy of which you can only see its white petals and some green, a buttercup blossom, a strawberry blossom, a blossom that looks like a perfect pine cone, two light purple flowers of another geranium species and two purple-blue Gundermann flowers and a bud (glechoma hederacea, ground ivy). The casings stand on a wet black glass plate, which also forms the background together with a large dark green strawberry leaf and two deep red poppy leaves.

Thyme-leaved Speedwell (Veronica serpyllifolia)

Thyme-leaves Speedwell is another naturalized import from Europe/Asia that we found this morning growing in a grassy path. Too nice to overlook and my soul is saved by the fact that native insects happily exploit the flowers.
It really is tiny, those flowers are a bare 6cm across. The plant grows in full sunlight, tolerates partial shade, and thrives in a moist environment during the spring.
