It is winter, a cloudy day with an evenly grey sky. Grasses and bushes are beige, brown, and grey. There is some snow on the ground, especially on the shaded side of a hill and on flat ground shaded by the hill. Trees are leafless except for a few dried, brown leaves clinging on.

The scene is a four-track rail corridor in a cutting, seen from an overpass. The corridor begins in bottom left of the photo and curves left through the centre of the photo, disappearing from view behind an abutment of a bridge that spans the corridor in middle distance. Low trees and bushes grow on the banks of the cutting. We're in a city, although we can't see much of it, but there's utility poles, a utility line crossing above the bridge, and a few buildings in the far distance, one of them with a dome.

🇫🇷 Encore une fois, retour en juin 2005, le train London - Inverness opéré par GNER (Great North-Eastern Railway) composé d'une rame HST 125 (sorte de TGV diesel atteignant 200 km/h) est arrivé à Kingussie et sera bientôt à son terminus. Toute l'ambiance d'une petite gare au Royaume-Uni (en Ecosse ici) condensée dans une photo. 🙂

Le HST 125 est composé de deux motrices class 43 entourant des voitures Mk 3.

🇬🇧 June 2005 again, the GNER-service from London to Inverness is calling at Kingussie and will soon reach its final destination. The HST 125 (a diesel High Speed trainset capable to run up to 200 km/h). All the atmosphere of a small British (Scottish in this case) railway station captured in one photo.

HST 125 are trainsets composed by two Class 43 power cars and Mk 3 coaching stock.

the picture (taken from the rail directly) shows a view along the tube of the then closed S-Bahn line. It takes a wide turn to the right. There are two people seen wandering off to the end of the tunnel. On the right wall to lit lamps emitting cold white light are seen. The trails are kind of rusty.

A serene railway track stretches into the distance at sunset, the sky painted in warm hues of orange and gold. 🇫🇷 Une photo d'archive de 2003 pour ce #trainTrackTuesday avec la ligne 45 Trois-Ponts - Wévercé/Weywertz - Jünkerath.

Cette ligne internationale oubliée, rénovée à grands frais pour l'armée belge à la fin des années 1980 et aujourd'hui déferrée et transformée en RAVeL (Voie verte) après une bref épisode d'exploitation touristique.

Affluent de la "Vennbahn", l'épine dorsale qui reliait jadis Aachen (Aix-La-Chapelle) et Troisvierges (Ëlwen) au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg en passant par St-Vith, ville martyre de la seconde guerre mondial et à l'histoire non moins chahutée à l'image de la région qui, aujourd'hui, est sans doute la région la plus calme de la Belgique!

Voici donc une ambiance typique de ligne secondaire à Faymonville.

Si aujourd'hui, la frontière entre la Belgique et l'Allemagne se situe près de Losheimergraben, jusqu'en 1918 elle se situait bien plus à l'ouest entre Stavelot et Malmedy.

🇬🇧 A photo from the archives for this #trainTrackTuesday on the former railway line 45 that joined Trois-Ponts with Jünkerath via Wévercé/Weywertz.

This forgotten international railway was rebuild in the late 1980's for the army for a lot of money but today the tracks have been removed and was converted in RAVeL (Cycle/Pedestrian concrete path) after a short "touristic" operation interval.

It was a "branch" of the Vennbahn, the former main line that joined Aachen in Germany with Troisvierges (Ëlwen) in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg via St-Vith, which suffered like the whole region a lot during WWII. It's a harsh contrast with nowadays as the region is probably the quietest of Belgium!

The photo shows the typical atmosphere of a rural railway in a small place called Faymonville.

Today, the border between Germany and Belgium is somewhere near Losheimergraben but until 1918, it was more western between Stavelot and Malmedy.
