So I am trying to boot #FreeBSD on my #LibreComputerAlta featuring an #A311D. I have tried boot only aarch64 image. The SoC supports upstream #uboot. FreeBSD bootloader comes up, some text are corrupted and USB keyboard doesn't work. Anyway it boots into the installer, tries loading kernel then it prints error that these files are not there:
/etc/hostid
/boot/entropy
I'm guessing that the bootloader is supposed to populate these files. Anyway, if you have hints, let me know. I will study about FreeBSD boot process myself after lunch.
PS: I don't want to use FreeBSD on my #SBC. I want to use the GPU and the #NPU and I'm, pretty sure FreeBSD hasn't got support for those. But I want to collect some data and make it public in the case anyone was interested.
PS2: At some point I might be interested in adding driver support to FreeBSD myself, if I could do it with #Rust. The plan would be for the next 1-2 years, God willing.

@wolf480pl @cas I just assume they don't want to have to deal with a gazillion of undocumented SBCs that may only get 1 person to once push code that gets accepted, but then "orphaned" and break over time as they may not be willing to build & test every new kernel before release just to enshure it ain't broken!

bootcode.binand #UEFI to boot from, but half a dozen different mechanisms ranging from fixed sector location and -sizes for theinitramfsto #uBOOT & #LinuxBoot, #Coreboot and potentially even #OpenFirmware-style #bootcode...
It's absolute chaos and one of the reasons I didn't even try to build @OS1337 for the #Pi0W as of today...
Why can't we all just agree to move on from #uboot to #barebox instead? My sanity would be secure and the world would be a better place ...

I finally battle tested my BananaPi RPI-R3 with #OpenWRT. After a long time I am configuring weird network staffs (#yggdrasil, #xray and etc) without my beloved #nix. GUI configs sometimes really cosy... before you need something unusual (ALWAYS for me).
I also tried #nixos (bless nixos-sbc), but it's not cool to write #uboot to SD card or ssd. I need to try something like a generic UEFI boot loader on onboard eMMC. Ideally secure boot, but I don't think I have anouth mana for that kind of magic
@lindsay fortunately there is some official #UBoot documentation https://docs.u-boot.org/en/stable/board/sophgo/licheerv_nano.html :) I also have struggles with uboot on an #sbc currently. :(
