A drake tufted duck afloat on blue-rippled water. He has a sleek black body and a big white patch on the side, and is holding his head up. It’d look proud, but for the way his tuft is hanging down like a ponytail and his eye open wide so that he looks like a really relaxed hippy.

I turn my back for five minutes, and does anyone else post a #MondayMallard? They do not. For shame.

A fuzzy black moorhen chick pauses on a tarmac path. Its crossed feet seem larger than they should be for its small body, and are very reminiscent of dinosaur feet.

Experimented with some film wildlife photography this week. Need a faster film for next time (this was Fujifilm C200), but the result is really interesting.

This was one of the good ones that wasn’t horribly underexposed - some flamingos at Slimbridge wetlands.

Taken using a Nikon F-801 with a Sigma 150-600 Sport. Which was awkward.

White-spotted Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica cyanecula) was the star of the morning - fantastic views of this smart male. Fabulous and uplifting to see. Even the elegant Black-winged Stilt and Avocet couldn't match it!

One of the Daves and I made the trip up the M5 today to WWT Slimbridge. We had a great day out and saw 46 species of birds including Common Crane, White-fronted Goose, Bewick Swan and the White-rumped Sandpiper (a rare visitor to the UK).
