@eniko I can recommend the CTFWIKE-4 from personal use. It has #clicky, #BlackBerry-Style keys.

They also have a predecessor/succesor model CTFWIKE-3 with bluetooth and a stick for mouse too. Not shure of the keys tho.

  • Also there the #Rii X1 with like a 65% layout * touchpad to the side is any good, as they are way cheaper and a lot of makers seem to use these.

I gifted myself a thing this Christmas, and no, it's no C64 bread bin. But quite similar, a C64 bread bin style mechanical keyboard.

Besides the really nostalgic design, the typing on this is awesome. I'm a little bit of a mechanical keyboard nerd, but I never had a keyboard with clicky switches. Instead the more quiet Cherry brown switches. But typing on this one is deeply satisfying 😀

@Joseph because it's neither #clicky nor #tactile nor #tactical nor #rugged?

Some of these flipdigits I got from #AlfaZeta . Been admiring their magnetic #clicky online for a while now. I love the association they bring with gas pumps and prices. I wanna make a stopwatch with them.

Playing with the example code, they built these nice little controllers for them- there is apparently a Windows application to program which controller is which digit? Awaiting their response with the download for their app. The letter controllers are #ATmega based...

My only hardware purchase from #vcfeast was this beautiful Apple Extended Keyboard II. I had one of these with my old B&W G3 and misplaced it. Now I just need the cables. #mechanicalkeyboard #clicky

I changed out my “eh” membrane keyboard at work with my spare #clicky #MechanicalKeyboard from home. Good thing I don’t share an office 🥴

Oh, and I brought in my lil’ Key V2 #macropad

Just finished cleaning the keycaps for my old Cherry blue switch keyboard. Been using a Unicomp Model M for a couple of years and I think it's time go back to the Leopold. The extra force to activate the Model M makes me slower and prone to more typing mistakes. #keyboard #clickykeyboard #clicky

I have (finally) finished replacing all my stock brown switches with glorious switches from TheKey.Company

Now I have a full #clicky number pad, #tactile alpha keys area, and #linear system keys. Today has been a good day.

Let’s Talk About Clickiez

Let’s Talk About Clickiez Introduction So, there has been a lot of buzz about these switches in the keyboard community. So much buzz that I found myself pre-ordering them months before they were released. Now that I actually have them, and have had them in my daily driver keyboard for over a week it’s time to talk about them. Are they good? Are they bad? Do they live up to the hype? Before we start talking about these switches, I’d like to make a few things clear about what I can’t cover in this article. Especially because a couple of these topics are substantial topics that are relevant to these switches. Comparing Clickiez to ALPS switches. I have been racking my brain trying to recall any keyboards I have used that had ALPS switches. And, as far as I can recall, there aren’t any that left a lasting impression. And, as far as I can recall, there aren’t any. That isn’t to say that I haven’t encountered them. I’ve certainly used a lot of different PC’s and Mini-computer and Main frame terminals over the years. However, I think there are likely a couple of reasons why none of them had a lasting impression on me: either I didn’t use them long enough (a few months is likely not long enough to have an impression), or I didn’t use it enough to have an impression. In fact, one of the more likely places for me to have encountered an ALPS switch would have been in college when I was taking computer science classes. However, here’s the thing: I had a computer in my dorm room in college. (First an IBM PC Jr, which was replaced by an IBM PS/2 Model 30.) So, my typical work flow was to write my code in my dorm room using my PC, upload the code to the college mainframe and make certain it was working. Then, and only then, did I go to the college computer lab to do the final run of code and printout the results. So, that definitely didn’t constitute heavy usage. Converting to Tactile or Linear Switches One of the selling points of the Clickiez is that you are getting a 3-in-1 type of switch. By opening them and making a small adjustment to the click mechanism you can make them tactile, without the clicking noise, or you can remove the […]

Audio Eavesdropping Exploit Might Make That Clicky Keyboard Less Cool

Despite their claims of innocence, we all know that the big tech firms are listening to us. How else to explain the sudden appearance of ads related to something we've only ever spoken about, seemingly in private but always in range of a phone or smart speaker? And don't give us any of that fancy "confirmation bias" talk -- we all know what's really going on.

And now, to make matters worse, it turns out that just listening to your keyboard clicks could be enough to decode what's being typed. To be clear, [Georgi Gerganov]'s "KeyTap3" exploit does not use any of the usual RF-based methods we've seen for exfiltrating data from keyboards on air-gapped machines. Rather, it uses just a standard microphone to capture audio while typing, building a cluster map of the clicks with similar sounds. By analyzing the clusters against the statistical likelihood of certain sequences of characters appearing together -- the algorithm currently assumes standard English, and works best on clicky mechanical keyboards -- a reasonable approximation of the original keypresses can be reconstructed.

If you'd like to see it in action, check out the video below, which shows the algorithm doing a pretty good job decoding text typed on an unplugged keyboard. Or, try it yourself -- the link above implements KeyTap3 in-browser. We gave it a shot, but as a member of the non-mechanical keyboard underclass, it couldn't make sense of the mushy sounds it heard. Then again, our keyboard inferiority affords us some level of protection from the exploit, so there's that.

Editors Note : Just tried it on a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches and it couldn't make heads or tails of what was typed, so your mileage may vary. Let us know if it worked for you in the comments.

What strikes us about this is that it would be super simple to deploy an exploit like this. Most side-channel attacks require such a contrived scenario for installing the exploit that just breaking in and stealing the computer would be easier. All KeyTap needs is a covert audio recording, and the deed is done.
