It's amazing to me that both the secular and evangelical cults within MAGA are apocalyptic in nature, with their own versions of "the rapture". For TESCREALists, it's the singularity. For Evangelicals, it's disappearing into the ether to "meet with Jesus"

The primary reason for e/acc is because rich people are getting old and fear death

@JSharp1436 wow, didn't know a high-profile #eacc investor was behind it. I was thinking, hey, a crowdsourced platform like waze.

... Never mind them. There is only one reality, and it's the one in which the first / AGi we need to deploy is NOT :

Effective Accelerationism: If you've seen "e/acc" online recently but still don't know what it means, here's an interesting article discussing it this tech-forward philosophy: medium.com/@1kg/e-acc-what-is-

It took me about 2.5 minutes listening to Guillaume Verdon to realise he’s a dunce. Stop listening to this guy and reduce malaria deaths to 0 already. It’s not even a human adversarial problem. Like, just do it. Walk before you run.

It's ironic there are people who call themselves effective accelerationists but believe we should unleash technology with unbounded complexity that's grounded on datasets no-one could really understand.

If you've ever worked on technological systems, you know that building a complex system on top of massive datasets is one of the slowest tasks there is.

They're literally advocating for ineffective decelerationism.

So as far as I can tell, e/acc ( #eacc I guess, "Effective Acceleration") which is the latest techbro idea, is that since we use resources to do things, some of which are desirable, it's a MORAL IMPERATIVE to use resources as quickly as possible. Thus hastening the heat death of the universe, when all possible resources have been converted to "utility", and everything is just a sea of featureless thermodynamic equilibrium without thought or life.

Great, billionaires in a suicide cult. 🤪

It's important to remember that Sam Altman literally doesn't care if 4 billion people die this century, as long as HE gets to die still believing his actions contribute to trillions of HYPOTHETICAL FUTURE PEOPLE someday maybe existing on some magical space hard drive.

Tech billionaires seem to think they’re some of the most persecuted people in the world because they’re no longer being endlessly praised, and they’re turning to faith to keep people on side.

Earlier this month, I broke down the techno-optimism cult.

"Being able to say to yourself, “it wasn’t me, it was the inevitable trajectory of History toward the Singularity! I’m just a powerless cog in a bigger machine that I can’t stop.” is a great way to avoid responsibility for your actions. Especially when your comparatively humongous profits depend on it– profits which get bigger while shrinking everyone else’s."

Effective altruism is when you have a glass of water, meet a person who needs a glass of water, and decide to sell the glass of water to a third person for as high a price as you can in order to raise funds to buy a profitable water-bottling company so that you can donate water to the thirsty person. Effective accelerationism is when you do all that while insisting that government should repeal all legislation impacting water, water bottling, and water sales.

Iain McGilchrist, in The Master and His Emissary, offers many clinical examples of people with debilitating (or temporarily induced) impairments to the right brain hemisphere failing to perceive embodiedness. To these people, bodies are just collections of parts, sometimes wooden and lifeless. The world to them is abstract, floating, as it were, out of any physical context. Thought within these right-impaired brains systematically favors certain, linear constructs extending indefinitely—as opposed to cyclical, tangled, or ambiguous realities. Death is unacceptable: does not compute.
The techno-optimist cheerleader, therefore, not only reminds me of a dangerous ideological zealot—ready to eliminate any number of species for the next awesome gadget—but also of a tragically-impaired creature missing half his brain.

is radically more dangerous than Marxist acceleration has ever been, even at its very most dangerous. I think it's probably even more dangerous than conservative , because conservative accelerationism tends to work via political processes, which have brakes (albeit rusty ones). routes around pretty much all systems that could really enforce accountability.
