Major edits to book 1 of my #fantasy comedy series published today. Several chapters have seen polishing, while chapter 14 have seen major changes to its content, expanding it by 1000-2000 words.

Royal Road and downloadable pdf have both got the changes applied to them. You can read the improved book here: royalroad.com/fiction/40358/ne

Including food in your novels not only potentially activates three of the senses for your readers (taste, smell, and sight), it can also be a secret marketing tool! ๐Ÿ”

If someone enjoys your story and a specific food mentioned stands out to them, they may end up trying to create that recipe in real life. Then, a person who follows the blog of that cook or baker may get curious of the source of the recipe, and pick up your book.

Hi, Mastodon!

I am new here and looking to have a great time sharing about my books, other writing endeavors, and occasionally gaming or hiking pictures.๐Ÿ˜Š

I have just self-published a High Fantasy book called Weaving Dawn. The 1st chapter, as well as some Lovecraft inspired short stories, are free on tanjaveil.com.๐Ÿ˜Š

I received my first royalty payment last week - $1.23. And I will cherish that $1.23 because it means I'm doing it. You have to start somewhere. โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“š

Random thought for world builders:
Think of unique fighting styles for characters who live in different areas.

Real World Examples:
๐Ÿ‘Š Compare kickboxing, Judo, Capoeira, and Kung Fu.
๐Ÿคบ Compare fencing, hema, Angampora, and kendo.

The first fictional example I think of for magic is ATLA.

With the right signage, characters do not need to know how to read in order to know they are at the right place. The visual of the sign can also help make the location more memorable to readers.

One place you might find inspiration is โ€œOld Tavern Signs: An Excursion in the History of Hospitalityโ€ by Fritz August Gottfried Endell(1916).

Concept art for the village in the story I am working on, Where They Lurk. The village is heavily inspired by the iron-age celts.

Here are the current concept art ideas I have for my characters for the project I am working on called Where They Lurk! The characters are
Sellswords: Elyra, Balgrim, Fynlar.
Assassin: Heafrion.
Villager: Antiiss.

Antiiss is iron-age Viking and Celtic inspired in both clothes and culture, while the others are a mix of medieval, viking, edo Japan, and more.

Text: Balgrim.

Drawings: A man with a dark greying hair up in a bun. There are some loose strands. He has scruffy facial hair, and scars. His clothes are a breastplate and arm guards, a hood, pants, and leather boots.Text: World Notes: Village Fishing Culture

Drawings: A creature that is a mix of a horse and a deer attached to a cart with a large basket in the cart. The second image shows that the basket has a hole, and side-straps to slide in poles so people can work as a team to lift it. The third image shows that the large basket is made to be mostly submerged in water so that fish can be added to the hole in the top, but the fish will stay fresh and alive in the water.

The next images shows Antiiss wearing a back-basket called a "creel." They are for collecting fish, clams, and lake greens.

The last image shows Antiiss wading into the lake with her back creel. She is wearing a red tunic with gold details, and her pants are tied up to the knees. She has near-white blonde hair.Text: Heafrion

Image: A young man with black hair, olive skin, and blue eyes. His skin is covered in scars. His clothes are a viking-inspired tunic, leather armour, a hood, a scarf, and fur-lined leather boots.Text: Elyra Solvind

Images: a woman with long black hair and brown eyes. She has a breastplate over a tabard that is red with yellow flames.

I wanted to work on concept art for my character and her animal companion, as well as practice backgrounds and colours, and this is the result.

Antiiss comes from a village heavily inspired by the Celtic Iron Age, and sheโ€™s very much so the trope of โ€œweak and innocent character determined to get stronger.โ€

I think for the end of the year I'll be editing the original draft ending for my story of seasons, it's already in the draft page as a... Clean up format. I may do a pic for it but I want to make a proper clean of the writing and make it...well... Understandable, cause MAN that thing is rough.

To catch up check it out on my substack in the little prelude page!
