Nord blindato, esercito in strada

Pakistan, demonstrations in support of Iran turn violent: 25 dead in clashes with police.

Iranian-backed protests have spilled into the blood in Pakistan, erupting across the country in response to the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. At least 25 people have died in the country’s Islamic nation as a result of clashes between the enraged crowds and Islamabad police forces.

Karachi, the assault and the gas
The situation was particularly tense in the city of Karachi, where the tension reached a breaking point. Here, thousands of protesters attempted to approach American diplomatic buildings, with the likely intent of attacking them, triggering the hard reaction of the police who engaged them near the enclave hosting the US embassy.
Tear gas, sirens, and after the inevitable gunshots that, according to local police, caused at least ten deaths and over seventy injured among the protesters.
North shielded, army on the street
But if possible it went even worse in Gilgit-Baltistan. Here, between Gilgit and Skardu, the victims were at least thirteen dead, a result of clashes between the enraged crowds and the Pakistani army, which then announced a nighttime curfew that will last at least until Wednesday.
Tension also in the capital Islamabad, where two people were killed while thousands of citizens marched with photos of the deceased Iranian leader. Scenes that tell a country divided, caught between religious solidarity and geopolitical fears.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has defined the killing of Khamenei as a “violation of international law.” Calibrated words – Sharif has ties both with Washington and with Tehran – but loaded with political weight.
With tensions in Pakistan growing stronger, the embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom have urged their citizens to exercise caution, advising, where possible, to stay safe. Words that demonstrate the fear that these protests are far from over and that, indeed, they could explode again and without any warning.
The article Pakistan, demonstrations in support of Iran end in blood: 25 dead in clashes with police appears first on LA NOTIZIA.

The chief secretary noted that most incidents were caused by glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), a phenomenon increasingly common due to rising temperatures and climate change. “We are witnessing the compounded impact of extreme heat and erratic rainfall,” he added.

#ClimateChange and anthropogenic nature destruction in the name of "development" continue to wreck havoc across the most vulnerable areas first.

And by that I mean mountainous communities in the vicinity of melting #Glaciers. If you live in the Alps or any area classed as a mountain range, I'd be packing up to move to flatter terrain outside flood zones at the foothills.

I often remark to friends about #Pakistan 's mountainous north being unsuitable for life now thanks to #ClimateChange induced melting, flooding, and landslides.

The #Karakorum #Highway the world's highest such motorway connecting Pak to #China should be thought of a "seasonal" road now, gets washed away on an annual basis, sometimes more frequently.

We cannot afford to rebuild every year!

Further north, in #Pakistan 's mountainous province of #GilgitBaltistan, a #heatwave the past week has cause #FlashFlood and #GLOF or a Glacial Lake Outburst Flow, a wall of water that floods down mountains once it's ice wall melts and breaks like a dam.

GLOFs have become "common" in Northern Pakistan in the past decade, washing away infrastructure, towns and farms almost annually.
