A fabulous day in Somerset - Bittern, Hobby, Swift, House Martin, Garganey amongst 44 species at RSPB Ham Wall; Wood Sandpiper at Tealham Moor. Good company and great birding.

Great White or Great White Egret (depending on where you come from) with gorgeous breeding season green lores 😀. And some Sand Martin zipping about.

The Great Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus) is an unusual visitor to the UK but one was reported from Ham Wall. I nipped up the motorway to see it. It showed very well and I watched it for 15 minutes or so and then took this video (up to my usual standards 😂 ). My 300th UK species!

Today's adventure was to #Somerset; a Kentish Plover ringed and sat-tagged in #Germany spends its winter at Burnham on Sea. She was on the beach but still distant and wind was a-blowing. After that, off to RSPB Ham Wall and a beautiful #Garganey , two Glossy Ibis and Marsh Harrier action. All in all a good day out. #UKBirding #Birds #Wildlife #HamWall #MarshHarrier #KentishPlover #Birding

Day 12 of the 2022 #dragonfly #AdventCalendar is a delve into the archives. Variable #damselfly looks extremely similar to the more common Azure. This was my first one, at #RSPB #HamWall almost a decade ago. Ham Wall is famous for its starling flocks in winter but is also great for dragonflies in summer. #wildlife #insects #wildlifephotography #Somerset

A needle-shaped blue and black insect, sitting on a leaf. The markings on top of its thorax are thin and discontinuous, unlike other blue damselflies.
