#handwired

Here is an entire post typed on my very own #handwired split #keyboard! It's not finished, but all letter keys are now working.

The biggest challenge for me now is to figure out how to wire everything together inside the enclosure. There's not a lot of space and I don't have many good ideas on how to it neatly.

I'll figure something out though (I hope).

Another glamour shot of the 5×2 #handwired #dactyl #keyboard. The middle key in the left column now works as Shift_R (working on modifier keys).

Soldering continues and now I got a working 2×5 button #handwired #keyboard! Implements a6ofdb plus space, backspace and enter!

Handwired keyboard question:

As I was using my keyboard, suddenly a during a keypress (in the "row" of two keys in the middle) the entire column is being triggered (and flickering). I checked the connections on the keys but I could not find any shorts.

What could this be? Should I resolder everything just to be sure?

Finished my new keyboard! it’s an evolution of my old keyboard with some function keys and media keys moved to the top right so I stop pressing mute instead of ctrl! It is a little taller than I like but the design I layered so I think I can shave off at least 5mm without too much hassle (probably more!)

Following the failure of my project, I decided to extract the 3d-printed, hand-wired mechanical keyboard I hand wired and turn it into a standalone jobby. Here’s some before, during and after shots. Just waiting on the USB-C breakout so I can have the cable come from a more sensible direction.

The moment when the chinese clone is better than original, waveshare RP2040-Zero, it might have less GPIO, but USB-C port is the winner. I have no ideas what was RPI foundation thinking about using micro-usb port in theirs RPI Pico #rpipico #waveshare this will be brain of my next #handwired #keyboard

Woo, after burning two mcu and way too many bad solder joins, I have finished my first #handwired keyboard with #qmk 🥳
Took me way too long to finish but considering that two month ago, I did not know what a diode was and never really used a soldering iron, I am lucky I did not got burned.

@Vivaldi why the 1337? Realizing #key1337 of course... but, why? Just for fun, or is there a story behind it. How'd I know. Because Oh boy! too much text always!

Alley Cat Music store is gone.

I managed their website in the early 2000's. Pics of their all-tube "SRC Barker" amp line, designed by Dr David H Sarge (Fender Deluxe Black Face?).

Mark Ross, owner, passed away in 2020. I learned a lot working there. Rockabilly/Americana players taught me the inspiration of James Burton. Genuine rock-n-roll!

SRC Barker amps are still made, and Mark Ross's legacy lives on. I remember him through "Tanya Browne" and "Queen Bee and the Blue Hornet Band".

The "C" in SRC is for the craftsman who assembled the amps. I can't recall his name, but Mark and Dave were always present. Invaluable knowledge lost likely.

"Point-to-point" wired, all tube, hand-made amps. I enjoyed curating these images, inspired by vintage calendars. Rockabilly evolved into Americana in the mid-90's.

Left-Hand side of my #diy #handwired 5x6 dactyl manuform #keyboard is partially done.
I soldered in only four shorts on the first try. 🙈
Using amoeba royale pcbs without wanting to use any RGB seemed like it's more work than it's worth, though.

A few days ago I happened across a mechanical keyboard for sale that was dirt cheap and had actual mechanical switches. I tore them out (after buying it) and have used them in my first keyboard project.

This was just a small test to get a feel for what a full sized keyboard would feel like. But I'm happy with the results. It's essentially a macropad, but I've used KMK with the Artsey.io keyboard layout to turn it into a "proper" keyboard.

I've added more details in the image descriptions.

I promised #mechanicalkeyboard pics so I better start delivering!

This is the keyboard I built for my campus office, a Dactyl-ManuForm (github.com/tshort/dactyl-keybo) . #3dprinting in Obsidian HTPLA from Protopasta, and #handwired. Uses Kailh box white switches for exceptional clickiness with only mid-weight activation force. Firmware is a customized #qmk .

Each half curves up toward the center, and there is a cluster of 6 keys under the thumbs. The inside of a keyboard. The body of the keyboard is black, with the bottoms of white keyswitches visible. Silver wires run horizontally across the keyswitches, red wires run vertically. Retro Portable Computer Packs Printer For the Trip

Looking like it dropped out of an alternate reality version of the 1980s, the Joopyter Personal Terminal is a 3D printed portable computer that includes everything you need for life in the retro-futuristic fastlane: a mechanical keyboard, a thermal printer, and the obligatory tiny offset screen. It's a true mobile machine too, thanks to it's onboard battery and a clever hinge design that lets you fold the whole thing up into something akin to a PLA handbag. You won't want to leave home without it.

This gorgeous machine comes our way from [Gian], and while the design isn't exactly open source, there's enough information in the GitHub repository that you could certainly put together something similar if you were so inclined. While they might not serve as documentation in the traditional sense, we do love the faux vintage advertisements that have been included.

The upper section of the Joopyter holds a Raspberry Pi Zero W (though the new Pi Zero 2 would be a welcome drop-in upgrade), an Adafruit PiTFT 2.8″ display, a CSN-A2 panel mount thermal printer, and a Anker PowerCore 15600 battery to keep it all running. On the opposite side of the hinge is a hand wired keyboard powered by a Raspberry Pi Pico running KMK.

Speaking of that printed hinge, [Gian] says it comes on loan from [YARH.IO], which Hackaday readers may recall have produced a number of very slick 3D printed portable Linux machines powered by the Raspberry Pi over the last couple of years.
