I found a new science-based open source VR haptics device! This one stretches your arm skin instead of some mechanism on the hand. This has two advantages: It feels more natural for big movements, and it's probably easier to wear since it doesn't interfere with the controller. Promising, will try to build one!

Ploopy TrackPad review: USB touchpad with open source firmware and multitouch support
Most desktop computers are designed for keyboard and mouse input. Most laptops have a built-in touchpad. But it’s surprisingly difficult to find a good touchpad that’s designed for use in a desktop setup.
Mac users have Apple’s Magic Trackpad. But if you’re using Windows or Linux you’ll either need to fight with unofficial drivers to get the Magic TrackPad working or try your luck with a […]

How to use laptop or tablet as a touchpad (and keyboard) for a Windows PC
After decades of working with computers, I started to develop some wrist and arm pain a few year ago. So I switched from using whatever random mouse I could find for under $20 to using input devices meant to alleviate wrist pain. And for the past few years I’ve been happily switching back and forth between a Logitech MX Vertical mouse and a Kensington Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball.
And […]

Bought a used #Kensington #Orbit #Trackball with Scroll Ring a couple of years ago for testing instead of using a classic computer #mouse because the surface of my Microsoft #Intellimouse Optical from ~2000(!) finally went goo: https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/jpiv8p/microsoft_intellimouse_optical/
#OrbitTrackball: Love at first use. And it's #ergonomic and not wireless. 👍
Unfortunately, this week one of its buttons started to act weird so I just bought a new one as a replacement.

I can totally recommend that thing.

I just read this article. It describes GenieTalk (Generating Expression through Narrative in Everyday Talk), an input device for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
It sounds interesting, even for user who wouldn't need special assistance!

Apple's new patent hints at a Magic Mouse with Vision Pro-like 3D air gestures beside it, plus projected virtual keys on your desk. This tech could extend to many Apple devices. Future of input? #ApplePatent #Innovation #InputDevices
Wow, check out this IEEE Spectrum article about early Chinese computer keyboards and the challenges of Chinese character input systems.

I just got this new #IROK #keyboard which claims to be #nkeyrollover. However, this keyboard has exactly the same problem as the previous one: it appears to the OS that, from the 7th simultaneously pressed key and forth, the input events are from a separate input device. This triggers a #bug of #X11, making #graphics freeze for a few hundreds of milliseconds. This is fatal to #rhythmgame playing. Damn!
@kytta #Solaar should support it or could need some helping hands for more. https://pwr-solaar.github.io/Solaar/ #logitech #mouse #mice #inputdevices

What are your favourite alternative input devices for computer use?
I’m developing wrist pain consistent with De Quervain’s tenosynovitis (seeing the doc next week) and thinking that perhaps changing or varying the movements I use to navigate my machine will help.
I’m currently using a trackpad and Stream Deck for most things, but I’m interested to hear if anyone’s had success using things like ergonomic or chorded mice, foot pedals, etc.
Fresh graphical user interface (GUI) goodness for Linux: xinput-GUI.
Xinput is a utility to configure and test X input devices, such as mouses, keyboards, and touchpads. So, here's a simple GUI for Xorg's (a traditional Linux display server) Xinput tool.
Little GUI apps like this go a long way in making things more accessible for everybody. A huge salutation to the app developer IvanFon!
