@randahl @osma not only does setting up #Mastodon and properly #SelfHosting it takes quite a lot of resources and time, it's neither easy nor fast to setup either.
I remember @fuchsiii swearing amidst the #JankWare that is Mastodon, because it makes #WordPress look like 30+ years enterprise-grade minimalist #Unix code by comparison.
- Add to that the cost and complexity: Mastodon isn't a simple #XAMPP-esque application any #WebHoster supports, but needs like a rootful #VPS (with decent #IOPS if one wants to host more than a single user and doesn't flush caches daily!)...
But for #Omar, #Sanders and #AOC, these ain't valid excuses as they have paid full time staff on retainer to do their #SocialMedia and compared to the #AntisocialMedia / #MainstreamSocialMedia, the #Fediverse is way less painful and has way more granular and effective #moderation #tools built-in than even paid tools (i.e. #HootSuite) and paid #API|s ever offered on #Shitter!

2.I've seen "#ProofOfStake" #Shitcoins like #Ethereum and #Solana with setups that are way more wasteful, expensive and #hoarding of hardware like #RAM and #SSDs [the latter one being basically destroyed due to extreme #IOPS].
- I've yet to see any credible evidence of commercial #MoneroFarming / #MoneroMining to exist to a scale even remotely as close to those #Shitcoins with entire #Datacenters dedicaded to them (I sadly can't divulge more due to NDAs)...
3.If you have no problem with #AMEX, #VISA, #MasterCard ¹ (and espechally #PayPal!)² ³, then you shouldn't have a problem with Monero either!
Yes it is a #cryptocurrency, but it's the "least worst" when it comes to #privacy, #centralization and some study seem to hint that Monero and the DNMs that use it actually reduce #StreetCrime and #Violence as they allow #NonviolentDrugOffenders [aka. #VictimlessCrimes] to be facilitated safer and in a trustless envoirment.
The Problems associated with #Monero are not due to the fault of Monero. It's what people do towards other people. Whether they do it for XMR, #Dollar, #Euro, or whatever doesn't make it better or worse than whether someone threatens a person with a knife or a rifle: Both are equally bad in the eyes of the law and society for all the righr reasons!
Also Monero per it's very design CANNOT be abused for "#SmartContracts", #NFTs and associated #malware - in fact the #developers of Monero removed any such ability by deprecating and disabling the tx_extra feature.
- So in that regard, Monero by it's privacy is IMHO more ethical than even a #BankAccount because unlike a #Bank and like cash, #SelfCustody of it gives YOU 100% control over the funds, which is important amidst #Debanking attacks by the #Trump-Regime against opponents around the globe! Something @RoteHilfe found out recently...

Привет, Хабр! Сегодня мы снова будем экспериментировать, но уже не с FFmpeg , как до этого, а с твердотельными накопителями. Относительно бенчмарков и их производительности принято считать, что показатель IOPS с разными версиями PCIe интерфейса почти не меняется. Так как в отличие от скорости шины данных этот показатель больше привязан к способности контроллера самого SSD осуществлять определенное количество операций в секунду. Убеждение это родилось в среде обычных ПК-пользователей. Однако в силу его повсеместности часто встречается, в том числе когда речь заходит о моделях предназначенных для дата-центров. И как в очередной раз оказалось, наиболее частое мнение не всегда является верным.

Any now you know why I do want to get another 32GB for my machine if not find a good way to max out my Z600 to 96GB RAM and use AMT to remotely power on/off that monster for @OS1337 compile jobs whilst also putting all the stuff in a #RAMdisk because that'll be faster in terms of #IOPS so my compile jobs don't take half an hour...

I've been also using #SQLite3 databases with many random writes on #Btrfs with older #SSD. What a nightmare! I'm really curious what the Write Amplification Factor (WAF) actually is, when I increment counter. I could test that just for fun. I'm sure it's something horrible. CREATE TABLE tab (count); UPDATE tab SET count = count + 1; Just a table with a single counter column and a single row. And then call the update many times in individual transactions. How many bytes will be erased from SSD and how many #IOPs the OS I/O counters will show.
Die wöchentliche Spiegelung der jeweils letzten Tages-, Wochen- und Monatssicherung via rsync auf eine nur während dieses Vorgangs angeschlossene externe USB-Festplatte läuft nun bereits seit 31 Stunden.
Es steht wohl entweder die Anschaffung von weiteren SSDs oder die Umstellung des Vorgangs auf das Kopieren von Btrfs Snapshots an.
