Yay 🥳! My first ever lace sock is finally ready! Never knitted lace before! And now I need to start knitting the other sock 😀.

Okay, I don't make New Year's resolutions but I am putting this out into the world now.

By the end of 2026 I wish to have successfully knitted ONE sock.

Not a pair. Just a single Sock.

A pair would be Fantasti! BUT I want an achievable aim and I've various hurdles to overcome in order to finish a sock.

Knitted a flock of the #EmotionalSupportChicken

I played around with patches of stockinette stitches on different parts of the hens to get different structures to add some sensory interest. I also placed the under section differently on all of them, to give them character.
And the combs are improvised crochet instead of knit, so will the waddles be, when I get around to finishing up...
On the next one I think I will try out some other type of filling. Maybe some peas in the bottom to add a bit of mass?

Thanks Snowy, for this example of how to repair a knitted sweater.

The video is clearer than the previous one and will help people to understand what is done.

But I think the method of the first one, with how it also connects left and right, is slightly better as many holes might be larger than one thread.

@ombremad You don't need to do it like this, only if it should be invisible. But we also have the nice craft of #visibleMending (great hashtag!) where you can learn much easier technics for repairing knitted fabrics. This is a way for people who just start with a needle!

If not, you can perhaps meet people at a #repairCafe or elsewhere who can do it for you.

Visible mnding on a knitted yellow sweater with an irregular hole. First, small holes are visibly filled with purple flame yarn, then a large hole is outlined with a frame of flat stitches. Later, a piece of fabric is placed behind it.

The same hole finished, with a pink, white-dotted fabric behind the hole.

A hole in a dark knitted sweater is filled with yellow stitches, a little bit weaved in one another to fill the hole. Then came the idea to give the yellow oval three stitches like a head, some antennae and legs. It's a beetle now.

Three holes eaten by moths into a knitted sweater. They are backed with silk in a contrast colour. Wild stitches around the holes fix the silk and secure the frayed edges at the same time. More stitching in the same colours will embellish the whole sweater ... it's like painting with a needle.

My latest #crafting project are these small #knitted mice. They are about 7.5cm tall and knitted on 2mm d needles. I found a matchbox style box that they fit in and at some point will attempt to make it look like an old Beehive matchbox.

Some of you may remember my parcel that was opened by Biosecurity NZ? Well these are what the tiny buttons and eyes were for 😄

Last fall I collected oak galls in a park close to my home. I cooked up some iron gall ink and used it to dye some cotton and wool yarn. The pattern on the #knitted piece came to be by hanging only half of the yarn into the #dye. So excited about this!! Does anyone have literature about this effect?

My brain seems to have worked through the 78 or so different hobbies that I’ve got interested in, researched / bought the stuff for, and then got bored of and so now I seem to have come full circle and come back to the idea of taking up knitting again.

I learned to cast on and do a basic row last time, enough to make a small square, so I’m this time I can maintain my interest it long enough to make a pair of toddler sized socks. 🤞🏻
