Julia Mapped to Mandelbrot

I used the GIMP Fractal Explorer to generate a Julia set, then mapped it to a Mandelbrot set with Fractal Trace. I also played with the colors to make it pretty.

Linear Noise

Just made some more noise art for #Genuary . 😜

Noise art is a form of abstract art where an image is generated from statistical noise, where each pixel has a probability distribution as to what color it will be.

This artwork looks better if not zoomed in at 100%. Something about blending adjacent pixels together makes it look 3D.

Some years ago I came up with a space-filling curve similar in spirit to the Hilbert curve, but triangular instead of square, and with smaller steps in the sequence of approximations. See here for the details: ideophilus.wordpress.com/2012/

Well, a commenter called Anthony D used the pattern for some floor tiles, and has given me permission to share photos, so here they are!

Right-isosceles triangular tiles of two colours arranged in a pattern where branches of each colour seem to stick out into what would otherwise be areas of the other colour.  Some of the tiles have sides twice as long as the other tiles. Here is a larger version produced using Fragmentarium (a free and open source shader editor).
It is actually downscaled from 10000x10000px to 2000x2000px using GIMP.

The formula used for this is:

z[0] = x + y*i, where x and y are the image coordinates

z[n+1] = i / ((a / z[n] - b/ z[n]) * e ^ (a / z[n] + b / z[n]))

where a and b are complex valued coefficients, controlling the behavior and structures of the result.

the color is generated by the HSL color space (converted to RGB) namely H = 0, S = 0, L = clamp(|z[250]|, 0, 1).
