Short 🧵 1/2

In case anyone is wondering what caused my recent rant, I just did a fresh install of #OpenSuseSlowroll - basically, it's a delayed rolling release. It's like #OpenSuseTumbleweed except the updates come monthly instead of more or less constantly. The idea is to strike a balance between the sometimes unstable Rolling Release model and the sometimes out of date Fixed Release or "Stable" model.

Anyway, I used the new Agama Live ISO. It's well laid out, and while not quite as user friendly as Calamares, it's more powerful without being overwhelming. It's also *fast* which I love.

That said…

During install, you go in and pick, say, Gnome Desktop Environment, Multimedia, and Office Software, plus Base System and Enhanced Base System, the YaST utilities (OpenSuse's magnificent suite of system management tools), and other minimal options.

Pros & cons of using OpenSUSE on a laptop - when compared to Debian, for example? There are many Linux users on Mastodon, so I'd appreciate if someone could share some experiences, comments or advice.

I'm a long time Debian user but been thinking of installing #opensuse on a new laptop. The idea of a rolling-release operating system that is relatively stable is tempting - so, maybe: #opensusetumbleweed or #openSUSESlowroll

Over 20 years ago Suse was perhaps the very first Linux distro that I installed and tried, but I haven't really used openSUSE, mostly only read about it, till now.

It's been a while since I've shared my desktop - here's how it looks as of now.

I've kind of gotten used to the #bigsur #icon theme after setting it up for a few friends on request.
